This is one of the early "S42" code 1936 made and so marked on the receiver. (Mauser am Oberndorf) marked German K98k rifles put into secret production by Hitler in the 1930s. So called "Sneak Mausers", build in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Very clean rifle inside and out. Sharp, strong bore. Third Reich markings are many and clear.
