Professionally inspected and hand refinished by James River Armory, a highly respected Civil War and military firearms restorer. This is an original piece with intact original Nazi markings and proof stamps, and with matching serial numbers on major components (re-serialized). This rifle has an original laminated stock set with correct finish, properly cartouched for the manufacturer and year; original sights and bands, the front sight with the hood, correct for the year; correct butt plate for the manufacturer and year; original barrel in good shootable condition with clean and well-defined rifling; all critical areas inspected and headspace checked for safety by a certified armorer; test fired for functionality; all metal detail refinished in proper bluing and polish. Typical of German Mausers at this price point, this one is a Russian Capture piece, carefully selected for authenticity and condition. Swastikas are peened, and there is a light import company identification on the barrel. This rifle was recovered from the Ukraine, likely used at the battle of Kursk, which was in the summer of 1943. The bolt has a hand-marked number in addition to the serial number. This rifle (marked bcd 43) was built by Gustloff Werke, Weimar in 1943; (Richard D. Law, “Backbone of the Wehrmacht – The German K98K Rifle 1”); a historical piece without question. Serial Number 3857cc. A barrel band code TF 43 bcd indicates that the barrel was manufactured by Gustloff Werke, an unusual marking for this year. In quite good condition, and a very nice piece. Comes with a six-month James River warranty for functionality, and a Plano Gun Guard hard case. Use it to shoot, for re-enactment, for modernizing with its time-proven action, or to collect.
