One of the the most unexpected finds at the SHOT Show this year is this crazy thing from Leatherman. It is a watch–but that’s not really why I’m sharing the news with you. The band is made up of individual tool links. You need a screwdriver? There it is, on your wrist.
If you don’t want a watch, the contraption is available as a bracelet. It is called the Tread. Easy to see why. The links are stainless steel that are injection molded. I put the thing on at the show today and it feel ridiculously masculine. It is very heavy and totally bad-ass.
It took me a minute to figure out how to make it work, but it isn’t that difficult. Simply take it off, and fold the bracelet over at the link you want to access. Prices on the individual links are currently set between $11 and $14.40 for the stainless, slightly more for the black DLC finished ones. These look like a great masculine fashion statement. How well will they stand up to use? The Tread feels pretty robust.

for those who have more money than cents
That’s clever. Most people on here will presume you can’t spell…
Looks like something I need/want!
I am ready to make a purchase of the stainless version for a bracelet. I just need to pick out the necessary tools to fit my wrist.
I’m sure some Chinaman is working on a knockoff already. Full set for $19.99 and it will have a whistle, compass and light too!
Lol, yes I am sure the R&D Department at People’s Long March Factory #12 in Beijing is working overtime to get a knockoff on the market ASAP.
You apparently didn’t get the memo— they are now Chinapersons. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where much of the work is done as it is!
The ultimate McGiver watch band. Is the watch a two way radio?
Shut up and take my money!!!
This is actually pretty spectacular, I would love to see this powder coated or in camo. Just one concern, assuming that TSA actually notices, anyone think you might get trouble at the airport.
Yep, you might get noticed at the airport but not really likely, most of the drones are looking formore obvious things. For example, after knifes became unpopular in carry-ons, some folk started packing ceramic blades. They seem to zip right by TSA.
It’s TSA approved. So you’re actually allowed to bring it. That’s the whole point of this utility 🙂
Looks like it would be hell on your arm if you ever caught it on anything.
Ne linkovel concept, at first glance. At $11to $14 per tool link is spendy for what you get. About $110 to get around a avg wrist. I can get a lot of tools for that price. Are you going to have the clearence around those small nuts to fit the link on them? How many small nuts have you tightened in the last year and the number of times you didn’t have a tool for it? Leatherman tools are high quaility and lasts for years. As far as practicle use, this maybe just a macho charm bracelet.
I think you are right about the macho charm bracelet. I otherwise think it looks pretty great, it certainly captured my attention so far more than anything else at SHOT..and it’s not even a firearm! But I think about the types of things I personally need impromptu need of a small toolkit to take care of in my daily goins on and I dont think this would shine at much of them at all..simply the leverage, pressure and fine placement aspect seem like it would be a bit of a pain to use. The bottle opener, the package opener seem qute handy!
Might be a worthwhile widget to have on hand generally if not for that sweat inducing price point..yet..kinda understanadable if you know what I mean..lots of component parts, lots of sub-widgets, etc..
I’m guessing that for what I will personally actively use from it, it’ll likely be the package opener, bottle opener. I’d certainly try to use a bunch of the other tools but I’m guessing I’d be confronted with tedium and performance frustrations enough to eventually give up and dust of the more traditional multi-tool.
I gotta keep an open mind tho, I’ll watch this and listen out for reviews as time goes on. Otherwise, it seems a fantastic idea and product.
I think the Q-Branch now has competition. Wonder if 007 will put one on his Omega?
Cool! The author would have made the Leatherman more marketable, had he listed the individual tools on the bracelet/band: Flat tip and cross tip screwdrivers, can opener, etc……
I’d like to buy one, can anyone say where to go to get one.
Looks like a good way to rip out some arm hair! Like the idea though.
Lol…I was thinking the exact same thing. Better shave your armhair around your wrist first. Very cool product, most likely take some getting used to.
Every once in a while you see something that just stops you dead in your tracks. This is one of those items. I wonder how compatible this watch band is with non leatherman time peices?
Robin-to the Batmobile.
A Bracelet-man Hmmmmm
Where and when are these available? I would like to know where I can purchase one, the company name and address? Please email me the requested information if you would be so kind. I would like one on my wrist yesterday!
Thank You, Nels
What a great product! I want a 4 😉 1 for each of my boys and me! Stylish i n the way that not everyone is a belt clip kind of person. The gun metal grey is a huge bonus. And I’m sure with leathermans name on it, it will stand true to their background and upbringing. Seriously though…. Where do I order? Haha
