Is That a GLOCK in Your Stock–SHOT Show 2015

in Authors, Holsters, Sam Trisler, SHOT Show 2015

The government may just have a new mule.

M.U.L.E. Tactical was at SHOT Show this year showing a very interesting AR stock.  It is called the Adaptive Storage Stock. Simply put, it is a stock you can put a handgun in.

The Mule is a bit big, but then it has to be to do what it does.  The hinge is spring loaded and opens strongly when the release button is pressed.  They make a few different holsters for the inside that will hold 17 different handguns, and they are working on adding more.

We made a comment about the butt pad shape–some shooters want less concave so a stock rides flat across their pectoral.  We were told that flat ones are in the works along with different pads for adjusting length of pull.

The owner of the company was in the booth and said there are 8,000 of the stock/holsters currently in production and that once everything is set up they will be able to produce about that many each week.  They might need that amount of production; they have been approached by the several government agencies and other law enforcement groups.  They are also planning on producing a magazine holder to mount on a handguard.

Other colors of the Mule are also in the works along with a mini mule for compact pistols.

The MSRP will be around $250 $175(We had in our notes that the price was $250, but an email from the MULE said it is $175). Does is kick like a Mule? Not sure. We’ll let you know when we shoot one.

You know i can see the practicality for a shtf or bugout rifle… might make the balance a little better since the ar15 is very front heavy.

  • Mike February 1, 2015, 8:28 pm

This is an “accessory” for someone who has never had to “quickly” hump a rifle and ammo (along with 60+ pounds of other “essentials”) for any distance under austere conditions and terrain while “targets” actually fired back. Why oh why are people continuing to load down their battle rifle with all this crap? Have we all forgotten that ounces = pounds, and pounds = pain! And anyway, pistols are only good for fighting your way to your rifle. If you already have your rifle, why do you have to stick your pistol inside your rifle? This is just goofy. Can anyone say, “Holster?” Semper Fi!

Muleass formerly Birdman the maker of homeboy glock sights presents a new way to gits yo gat on.
ok this is a joke 3 months too early.

  • DaveGinOly January 28, 2015, 7:53 pm

They will sell a few of these to people who will figure out:
1.) It makes the rifle heavier. It’s easier to wear an item (handgun in a holster) than it is to schlep it around carrying it.
2.) In practical terms, if you’re separated from your primary weapon (rifle) you are also separated from your handgun. This is what you call “bad.” (Unless you carry two handguns, with one on your person. See #1 above to weight – this would be heavier overall. If you’re going to carry two handguns, it’s easier to wear them than to wear one and carry the weight of the other in your hands or on your shoulder.)

  • Jason January 27, 2015, 9:25 pm

Why not mount the Glock facing rearward so when you run your AR dry you just turn it around and keep shooting with the Glock. Or if you’re surrounded by the enemy you can quickly shoot your self with the suicide Glock to avoid enemy capture. Sheesh do I have to spell everything out for these guys?

  • Brett January 27, 2015, 8:58 pm

It’s definitely too big, but I can see why they would start out with a size accommodating the handguns most people have. If It is a big hit then they design a smaller version that’s more practical, but limits the number of pistols that it will fit. Is it useful? I’m not entirely sure. I know none of its detractors here have practiced drawing from it. I can imagine a few scenarios in which it could be advantageous, and I would be glad to gain proficiency with and tout it’s design… If I was given one. 250$ is a lot to spend on an ugly “maybe”.

  • Dave January 27, 2015, 4:36 pm

Wonder if that would hold a flask of single-malt scotch. Far more useful if I’m lost in the woods. I’d still be lost but I wouldn’t care as much.

  • David January 27, 2015, 4:07 pm

Well that doesn’t seem like a very good idea.
Add weight and unbalance your rifle.
    Lose rifle, lose sidearm.
It isn’t necessary to carry anything in an AR stock.

  • Joe Mama January 27, 2015, 3:44 pm

This item will become illegal because the ATF will consider this as mounting an NFA accessory to a firearm, such as short barreled shotgun under an AR. Sounds silly but just as the Sig brace has controversy this will even if a handgun is in the buttock.

  • kimber January 27, 2015, 3:05 pm

    Shaking my head .

  • BRASS January 27, 2015, 2:12 pm

Talk about a Kel-tec Sub 2000 configured for a Glock 17/19, 26/27 or 22/23 for magazine/ammo compatibility and you have one heck of a get out of dodge, trunk or backpack combo. Add a cleaning kit, spare mags, lightweight vest, first aid kit and a couple of other items and you’re well equipped for quick bug out or bug home event.
Take a Sub 2000 with a G19/23 in the stock, each loaded with Glock mags with a couple of spares in a briefcase, and you have a credible lightweight self-defense carry combo.

  • Tommy Thompson January 27, 2015, 2:02 pm

And then the reviewer had to add a racist joke about the M.U.L.E. “it does not come with 40 acres.” If you can quit bringing your biases into your business, you’ll do a lot better.

    • Sam Trisler January 27, 2015, 2:30 pm

I did not intend that to be racist. It was a joke based on the fact that some US Government agencies have been looking at the M.U.L.E. stock. Maybe not a funny joke, and surely not meant to be racist.

      • ratntat January 31, 2015, 12:47 pm

With what kids learn now days, I’m sure nobody has much of an idea of the term “40 acres and a mule” , unless they goggled ut in reference to your “racist” remark. So who cares anymore..? Leave “race” out of it and chances are racism will be too. Tommy Thompson you are the one that brought it to the table..

    • clinton February 4, 2015, 5:04 pm

oh look, Tommy the college freshman needs something to be outraged about! I know, let’s drum up some racism where there is none!

  • David January 27, 2015, 1:56 pm

Hey, if it’s gonna be lame, why not also be ugly? Remember the little turd cars Detroit tried to sell us in the 70’s and still I want one. If my wife ever thinks I spend too much money and have to have every thing new on the market, think how impressed she will be when I tell her that I might be willing to send it back.
    David

  • Johnny January 27, 2015, 1:28 pm

    I don’t think so!

  • david hamilton January 27, 2015, 12:37 pm

Ha! Yep, stufff a NA Arms 22 in the butt of the glock and you’d have the gun version of a ‘Turducken’………

    • Early Ray January 27, 2015, 2:18 pm

This idea must have been conceived at Thanksgiving! “Pass the Turducken please…and by the way, I gave a great idea!” What if someone shoved a duck in the butt of an AR15?

  • bigshooter January 27, 2015, 12:10 pm

A bunch of you idiots need to go back to 3rd grade and learn how to spell. Very difficult taking your point of view seriously when you abbreviate “etc.” as ect., etc

  • Ernest S Lipps January 27, 2015, 12:06 pm

    Ugly!!!

  • Me January 27, 2015, 11:13 am

Way too goofy . . . a “WTF were we thinking” in in their future for sure. Not a terrible concept but does it have to be a FULL sized service pistol? Why not a little .380? FAIL. Better luck next time.

  • sam January 27, 2015, 11:04 am

Can’t they come up with an ar-15 stock that will hold another ar-15?

  • Joe January 27, 2015, 10:39 am

Or it can hold toilet paper, I always forget where that roll of toilet paper is when I poop myself in a firefight …

  • Jerry christensen January 27, 2015, 10:38 am

I would rather have a sandwich or some chips in the stock or more ammo pull your head out of your — and get your head right and start all over again Who came up with this TURD

  • Jerry christensen January 27, 2015, 10:37 am

  • Glock_10 January 27, 2015, 10:22 am

They are going to make 8000 a week, whose gonna’ buy ’em……it’s not useful it’s a novelty and at 250 it’s 230.05 overpriced…

  • Chris January 27, 2015, 9:46 am

Sorry, but these “tacticool” accessories are getting out of hand. I see absolutely no value in something like that. I’d want my handgun on my side versus stuck in the stock of my rifle. $250 for that? That’s 1/3 of the price of an AR build.

  • blh557 January 27, 2015, 9:38 am

Okay… so they called this the “Adaptive Storage Stock”. Are they now trying to tell us to shove our handguns up our A.S.S.?
Sounds a little Bloomberg-ish to me.
Yes, I had to go there!

    LOL! ;)>

    • Todd January 27, 2015, 10:00 am

Yup, nothing like the new mule “M.U.L.E.A.S.S.” to really demonstrate your taste and priorities to the rest of the world. There is NO chance that the name went unnoticed by the makers. Too, it’s unlikely they didn’t intend it to be a commentary on the market. More reason to pass.

      Todd.

  • B January 27, 2015, 9:36 am

Looks like a concept Taco Bell would come up with. Like a pizza in a taco. Definitely for the folks who never use their AR.

  • scooter January 27, 2015, 9:28 am

C’mon everybody. Granted it’s not probably a tool you are going to pop open in mid stride across a hot LZ in a firefight, but the idea is in its own way pimp! Would be nice if it was around $125 though.

  • Rip January 27, 2015, 9:25 am

Another place to stash an extra gun. Not a bad idea.

  • Todd January 27, 2015, 9:19 am

Cool – my rifle/carbine is heavier, more expensive and larger but at least it has more moving and interconnected parts. All for fear of a holster. A holster by the way which is unlikely to be left behind/dropped with the long gun should it come to that.
Color me not only unimpressed but dismayed.

    Todd.

  • User38 January 27, 2015, 8:48 am

A gun in a gun? Hmmmm, now if they could fit one of those cute little NA Arms 22s in the Glock’s grip they’d really have something…..

  • Jimbob in Florida January 27, 2015, 7:45 am

I saw this at the SHOT Show and I have the same question, Why? It wouldn’t be feasible to transition to the stored handgun if you experience a malfunction. If I’m going to have my AR, I most likely will have a handgun in some type of holster. It looks interesting, I just don’t know if there is a viable market for it. Maybe as a novelty stock, just to be different for $250.
    Maybe I am wrong.

  • Joe Mama January 27, 2015, 7:32 am

It’s an NFA weapon, another ATF ban coming on that one lol

  • Reall? January 27, 2015, 6:15 am

Quite the novel piece of gadetry. I wouldnt put that on any of my serious battle-rifles. #1 the flimsy looking design scares me a bit actually, maybe its just the way the pictures were taken. #2 The extra added weight of a fully loaded pistol! NO Thank You. Id rather have my pistol in a thigh holster, on my plate carrier holster, hell even on my waist worst case. #3 Complexity of design, when I first glanced at the small picture of this new toy, I thought someone had made a fancy cordura nylon holster that attached in some slick way to a basic sopmod stock, for holding a G26 or smaller back up pistol. This type of accesory I could totally see! Ultimately, I am a bit shocked when the writer says that many law enforcement depts are lined up to buy these? Really!? These must be pretty backwater “Sparta” type police depts., white haired “good ol’boy” police chief and unwaivering black lieutenant. Regardless, I do see the civilian market and rifle users who love practically of space conservation and do not tote their rifle around for ANY period of time.

  • Joe January 27, 2015, 6:03 am

I put a months supply of MRE’s in mine so I can run around in the forest and eat without setting up camp.

  • Flep Vandergaard January 27, 2015, 5:57 am

I fail to see the practical aspects of this. Sorry, but $250 is better spent on a dedicated stock and a dedicated holster for a sidearm IMHO. I don’t even see how a transition could be aided, and rather, in a weapon retention scenario, I see the prospect of losing the primary AND secondary…

  • Doug January 27, 2015, 5:04 am

This is a joke right? Thats the dumbest thing you have shown in a while.
I dont think i would want a pistol so precariously located where it could be cause for accidental discharge while stored in an enviroment prone to shock, vibration, and bump from recoil ect….

    • Mike Gaskins January 28, 2015, 7:42 am

You’ve seen too many movies. Guns (at least any modern gun with a firing pin block) don’t go off from shocks, vibrations, or recoil. They go off when the trigger is pulled. Throw a Glock off of a roof and it still won’t go off.

This idea is of dubious value IMHO, but there’s nothing unsafe about it.

    • jeremetrius mcclain February 4, 2015, 4:42 pm

Doug isn’t too bright, is he?

  • ken smith January 27, 2015, 3:49 am

It would have been nice to see the whole product with the stock full extended. All the close up photos left me wondering what it looked like . Very poor presentation.

    • Pseudomind January 27, 2015, 11:21 am

Ken I am with you not that I am so much interested in acquiring one, but I would have liked to have seen one on an actual AR15 with the stock closed and a Glock inside it.

  • Vince January 27, 2015, 3:02 am
