Just the facts: Brand new, unfired fullsize Cougar 8045F model pistol designed & built by Beretta in Italy chambered in .45 caliber. It's a DA/SA gun with exposed hammer and a ambidextrous safety/decocker lever. There's a slide lock on the left of the slide and the same take down lever as on the 92/96 series pistols. The hammer can be pulled back slightly off the transfer bar, or carried fully cocked and locked like the 92/96 series pistols. It has a machined steel slide and an alloy frame. This is not the Cougar model now made by Stoeger, nor is it the Mini-Cougar compact model. The workmanship, fit and finish is far superior, though it may be otherwise the same gun. Here is an original full sized Beretta, stored in a safe for many years, untouched. This gun was taken down, the barrel was removed and sent out for cryogenic treatment. This slowly freezes it down to 300 degrees below zero, held for a day, then slowly thawed out over a week's time. The result is a piece of metal more molecularly perfect than a hammer forged heat treated billet, which the barrel was made from. The cryo treatment insures a harder surface, stronger in all ways which also makes it more accurate because it deforms much less under firing stress. The barrel was then gently hand lapped to remove manufacturing micro-burrs, then burnished with moly disulphide permanent dry lubricant. This lubricant is used on nearly all military barrels regardless of size to provide much longer barrel life and greatly increase accuracy and bullet exit speeds. It is a 3.7 inch twist/cam barrel,while the gun is 7.2 inches in length, weighing 30.5 ounces. These photos were taken and the gun was re-assembled. Anyone who has fired this model pistol knows how comfortable and hand fitting this gun is, more so than the model 92/96, 9000 series or even the PX4 models that were supposed to succeed it. It has a full size grip with double stack magazines for 9mm and .40, but the .45 holds 8 rounds in single stack style. It's design intended it to shoot more accurately with a shorter barrel and be more concealable than the previous models. It succeeded it all areas. It's twisting barrel lug design proved too costly to make in spite of it's effectiveness. This barrel turns from the recoil, absorbing a good deal of it while maintaining the accuracy of a 5+ inch barrel with only a 3.7 inch barrel. Many pro shooters have described it as having revolver like accuracy and that the gun will shoot better than the shooter without lots of practice. The balance and overall weight of this pistol means hours of use at the range without hand fatigue. I have owned one in .40 cal for years and it shoots identically to my new .45, making lots of revolvers stay in the safe, alone and unused.
The dark grey lubricant inside the gun barrel and on the barrel cam groove is the moly disulfide permanent lubricant. It should be left on the parts; just one of the many secrets why this gun will perform exceptionally. Enjoy. These pistols are being offerred elsewhere and may be sold without prior notice.
