It is in the lessor common .25 Remington caliber. Serial number C 24644. There are no barrel stampings on the left side of the barrel to identify the month and year of manufacture, and in my research I learned this is common to the model 14. There is a Factory Record Book of Serial numbers published by the Remington Society of America on the net, which is missing some pages but I have been able to tell so far that the serial number places it to be made earlier than May of 1924. I will update this ad if I find more information. It has variations in Model 14 options, such as the short-blade wheel-adjustment rear sight. People familiar with this firearm know the safety at the trigger guard can be finicky and that this firearm has an odd internal assembly that ties the trigger and safety to the operation of the slide. The safety wouldn’t hardly work when I bought it and so I had my gunsmith go through it and we found out this one has some Model 141 replacement parts in it. One of the parts he was able to take out completely, and then the safety worked better, with no other detrimental affects to the operation of the gun, so that is the way I left it. I will include it with the sale though of course. The safety is still finicky once in a while, but most the time it operates fine as I can prove in a video clip. For any SERIOUS buyer, I can also provide a video clip showing the firearm in operation at the range, proving everything is functioning. I can also provide several high-res photos. The rear stock is in pretty good condition, and is either original finish or a darn good refinishing that rivals factory. There are no cracks or scratches, just a few very tiny smudges in the varnish. The fore-end is apparently replaced with a beaver tail Model 141 stock. It fits perfectly and it’s in pretty good shape with no cracks and has a good finish to it, and only a few very small handling marks in it. It has a small area of a flattened edge on the back end. Most the original metal bluing is still present. If you look really hard there is evidence that there may have been a few specks of very light surface rust present at some time in the past at the top of the receiver. There are the usual wear spots on the slide action. Barrel is pretty nice on outer metal. The bore still has some shine left to it, with well-defined rifling, there is some light etching starting. All in all a nice Model 14 that is in better shape than most you’ll find. I am not a dealer. I am a private individual gradually liquidating my personal collection.
