Webley Mark VI Service Revolver; 1916 Birmingham, England Production; Barrel: 6" Slab-Sided; Capacity: Six Rounds .45 Acp(Converted from .455 Webley)
Manufactured at the Birmingham factory in 1916 for issue to the British military. A standard Mk.VI from the first full year of production, the revolver features a 6" slab-sided barrel with pinned blade front sight, "V" notch rear sight integral to the barrel release latch, fluted cylinder, lanyard ring affixed to the pommel, and grip panels of checkered vulcanite. The finish is rust blue across all surfaces and the markings include matching numbers on the frame, barrel and cylinder, with post-Korean War commercial proofs and no import mark found. In fine condition as converted to .45 and restored, likely in the late 1950's, this early Mark VI represents a nice find for the British arms enthusiast that would be a fine addition to any 20th Century military arms collection.
Condition
Very good, the metal surfaces retain 90% of an older, restored rust blue finish with edge wear and mild fading constituting the deduction. The markings are well-struck, unbuffed, and the numbers are matching with no importer mark found. The grip panels rate as very fine, each having only light wear to the checkering, and neither with any cracks, chips or repairs. Mechanically flawless, the action is smooth, the cylinder indexes correctly, and the lock up is fine with only minor lateral play between the frame and barrel. The bore is graded as excellent, remaining mirror-bright with sharp rifling and no visible rust, frost or pitting. Please note, this revolver should be find for most .45 ammo, although it will require a moon clip which is widely available online and at better stocked retailers. We do recommend inspection by a qualified gunsmith before attempting to shoot any vintage firearm.
