SAFN-49 Semiautomatic Rifle Luxembourg .30-06

This FN-49 semi-automatic rifle is .30-06 caliber and is marked with an AL on the receiver denoting that it is an Armee Luxemborg contract rifle. Most of the imports into the US of the FN-49 were Egyptian & Venezuelan. Smaller numbers of the AB (Armee Belgique) and AL (Armee Luxemborg) were imported beginning in the early 1960’s, and this rifle was purchased by my father at that time, from one of many department stores that sold them after import. Because of the facts as I understand them regarding when these were imported and by whom, I believe I am the only person to have ever owned and fired the weapon after it reached the United States. The number of rounds fired in the gun since its import is approximately 250 or fewer, and the bore is, in my opinion, mint condition. The serial number is 4202 and all parts are matching including the stock. The original & correct black phosphate epoxy paint is about 95% and the dark reddish walnut pistol grip stock is basically blemish-free, with no dings or scratches. The original cleaning kit & tools are missing from their compartment located under the hinged trap door in the butt plate. The sling strap appears to be original, and while I believe it is, I have no way to know that for a fact. Mechanically this rifle is excellent as is the bore. As shown in the photos, in some areas the original black finish is worn completely off, down to the bare metal. However, the underlying metal is all in very good to excellent condition, with no significant scratches, no dents, etc. This handsome rifle comes with the original 10 round detachable box magazine and has a 23” barrel. From the serial number, I believe this is a fairly early example of this Luxembourg contract battle rifle, and of course they don’t show up all that often for sale. It would make a nice addition to your military collection and a fine shooter.
