The National Shooting Sports Foundation released this week its 2018 Congressional Scorecard<\/a> for the midterm elections as part of its larger #GUNVOTE education campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scorecard is an excellent resource for determining which incumbent candidates have actually made good on their word to protect and defend the Constitution, in particular the Second Amendment, and which have not.<\/p>\n

Each senator and representative listed is given\u00a0a percentage that reflects how they voted with respect to key issues\u00a0affecting firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports.\u00a0 Candidates with a 100 percent score have a perfect pro-gun rating whereas candidates with a 0 percent score, well, it’s safe to say they’re entirely anti-gun.<\/p>\n

The scorecard contains a breakdown of the specific legislation\u00a0or issue the candidates voted on, e.g. national concealed carry reciprocity, the appointment of a pro-gun Supreme Court nominee, expanding access to public lands.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Shooting Sports Foundation is following a practice similar to that of other trade associations that report on how candidates voted on issues impacting their ability to conduct the lawful commerce in arms and encouraging participation in hunting and the shooting sports,\u201d said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Government and Public Affairs in a press release.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was clear in the last presidential election that the ability to freely exercise Second Amendment rights and fully participate in the shooting sports was a deciding factor for many voters,” continued Keane. “Members of our industry, gun owners and sportsmen and sportswomen are strongly urged to participate in this election and should be fully informed of how their prospective Members of Congress vote on the issues impacting their livelihood and recreational activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

NSSF notes that the scores simply reflect the voting record and are not an endorsement of a particular candidate.<\/p>\n

Voters can also visit www.gunvote.org<\/a> to check the NSSF’s evaluation of candidates at the state and local levels.\u00a0 As the NSSF warns, “Don’t Risk Your Rights.”\u00a0 Get informed.\u00a0 Don’t accidentally vote for a politician who is going to infringe on your fundamental right to keep and bear arms.<\/p>\n
