Support for stricter laws covering the sale of firearms has dropped from 67 percent to 60 percent according to poll results<a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/243797\/six-americans-support-stricter-gun-laws.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gallup-support-for-stricter-gun-control-drops\" title=\"Gallup: Support For Stricter Gun Control Drops\"> published Wednesday<\/a>. The last time Gallup asked Americans their opinion on the question of tougher regulations on gun sales was in March, not long after the Parkland, Florida massacre.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news? What do stricter laws covering the sale of firearms actually mean? Criminalizing private transfers? Tougher laws prosecuting straw purchasers? Raising the purchase age for all firearms to 21? It\u2019s not really clear. As such it\u2019s hard to draw any specific conclusions about policy implications.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2.png\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gallup-support-for-stricter-gun-control-drops\" title=\"Gallup: Support For Stricter Gun Control Drops\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Gallup: Support For Stricter Gun Control Drops\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-99178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2-1024x567.png\" alt=\"Gallup: Support For Stricter Gun Control Drops\" width=\"1024\" height=\"567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2-1024x567.png 1024w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2-150x83.png 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2-400x222.png 400w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2-768x426.png 768w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Gallup-2.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>What is clear, however, is that overwhelmingly Americans oppose banning handguns. Moreover, that that has been the prevailing\u00a0opinion of the public for the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFewer than three in 10 Americans, 28%, support a handgun ban, unchanged from last October. Handguns, after all, are the preferred tool for self-defense outside the home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These poll results do not surprise me,&#8221; said Alan Gottlieb,\u00a0chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation in an email to GunsAmerica.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In fact, they are good news for gun rights, The trend is in our direction and the fact that so few people support banning handguns is fantastic,&#8221; he added.\u00a0 &#8220;Generically people will say they are for more gun control until you ask specific questions with the explanation of what the current laws are.
