After a national tragedy like the one in Parkland, Florida last February, it is inevitable that anti-gunners will blame the National Rifle Association.<\/p>\n

The scapegoating\u00a0comes from every institution because\u00a0hoplophobes abound in media, politics, higher education, and entertainment.\u00a0 Examples are endless and easy to cite:<\/p>\n

After the mass killing in Las Vegas, progressive pundit Keith Olbermann questioned why the NRA<\/a> “is not branded for what it is \u2014 a terrorist organization” in a clip for GQ’s “The Resistance.”<\/p>\n

Former congressional candidate Pat Davis went so far as to say<\/a>, “F*ck the NRA” in a TV ad back in May.\u00a0\u00a0Davis, a current member of the Albuquerque City Council, was hoping to represent New Mexico\u2019s first congressional district.\u00a0 Not long after the ad aired he dropped out of the race.<\/p>\n

Rapper\u00a0Eminem in March released a song called “Nowhere Fast,” in which he suggested the NRA<\/a> was pulling the strings of the Parkland killer, “This whole country is going nuts\/ and the NRA is in our way\/ they\u2019re responsible for this whole production\/ they hold the strings, they control the puppet.”<\/p>\n

Sociology Professor\u00a0Patricia Hill took her ire so far that she vandalized the home<\/a> of NRA executive Chris Cox.\u00a0 Hill, who sprayed fake blood on his home, was convicted of a misdemeanor destruction of property in May.\u00a0 Interestingly enough, she still listed on the faculty page<\/a> at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.\u00a0 (Had a conservative professor vandalized the home of a PETA executive, would he still have his job?)<\/p>\n

We don’t blame Ford or GM for the actions of drunk drivers.\u00a0 Yet when a mass killer obtains a firearm and guns down his classmates it’s the gun lobby’s fault.\u00a0 It doesn’t make sense.<\/p>\n

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter was slain at Stoneman Douglas High School, understands that blaming the NRA — the nation’s leading organization when it comes to teaching safe and responsible gun ownership\u00a0— serves no purpose. It doesn’t make sense logically but even more to the point, it doesn’t do anything to make school children safer.<\/p>\n

On Twitter this week, Pollack fired back at actress and anti-gun activist Alyssa Milano who resorted to the tired trick of NRA bashing at a recent gathering.<\/p>\n

The FBI, Sherrif Israel, mental illness counselors, school administrators & failed diversionary programs are to blame.<\/p>\n

Yes, if we’re going to point the finger at anyone other than the shooter, it should be the local, state and federal agencies and school personnel that identified the killer as a potential threat and failed to stop him, both before the attack was perpetrated and while it was taking place.<\/p>\n

You’ll recall that authorities were given multiple tips from concerned citizens<\/a> about the mental state of the shooter, including that he might be a serious threat to public safety, and that an armed resource officer fled the scene instead of engaging the gunman.\u00a0 Had local police or the FBI followed up on those red flags, or had the SRO done his job, things might have turned out very differently for the victims of Parkland.<\/p>\n

\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n

If we are really going to “make a difference,” as gun control advocates like to say, we need to harden schools.\u00a0 This is the main mission of Andrew Pollack post-Parkland.\u00a0 Pro-gun or anti-gun, everyone should support improving school safety.\u00a0 Capable men with guns protect bankers and politicians and celebrities and businessmen all across this country — isn’t it time we rely on these armed individuals to protect school children?\u00a0 Emphasize capable<\/em>, because we don’t need any more cowardly slugs on the job, who are there just to collect a paycheck and who will run at the first sign of trouble.<\/p>\n
