What appears to be the year\u2019s largest pro-Second Amendment rally took place in Boise, Idaho, this weekend, drawing thousands of supporters from at least five states through the streets of Boise to the capitol building. Rallygoers carried rifles and handguns along with American and Gadsden flags, and all came out to show their support for the right to keep and bear arms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey want to ban all semi-automatic firearms, this is the battle that we\u2019re in and if you haven\u2019t noticed, the anti-gun left wants your guns,\u201d Greg Pruett, President of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance (ISAA), said from the podium. \u201cThey want your guns, they want to take them away and they\u00a0think that you and me are the problem.”<\/p>\n

Estimates varied as to the exact number of attendees. Boise State Public Radio<\/a> reported \u201chundreds\u201d gathered to march in Boise, while the ISAA estimated in a Facebook post that 2,000<\/a> people attended. The Idaho Statesman<\/a> quoted Pruett putting the number at \u201cnearly 1,000.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whatever the exact number, Pruett is confident that Saturday\u2019s rally marked the largest pro-2A march this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have just held the largest gun rights rally in Idaho history,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cAnd we have most certainly held the largest gun rally in the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event mirrors similar rallies across the country organized to counter the anti-gun \u201cMarch for Our Lives\u201d protests held in response to the Parkland massacre.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very emotional topic. It\u2019s a very difficult topic for people to sit down and have a conversation and not have it turn into a shouting match,\u201d Pruett told the Statesman. \u201c(But) the bad guys don\u2019t care about the laws. They\u2019re going to do whatever they want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another of the rally\u2019s speakers, attorney and author Alexandria Kincade, echoed Pruett\u2019s sentiment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we aren\u2019t strong and we don\u2019t know what we\u2019re talking about, it could very well happen in Idaho,\u201d Kincade said. \u201cThey think that if they pass another law against us, the law-abiding citizen, that somehow that\u2019s going to stop the next school shooting. … We don\u2019t know who that next person is, who is going to act out and cause harm in society. We can\u2019t predict that. But we can defend ourselves, and you can\u2019t take means to defend ourselves away from us, the law-abiding citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Counter-protesters made their appearance in Boise as well. The Statesman reports that a \u201chandful\u201d of Boise High students took to the streets to speak truth to power.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re basically sick and tired of going to school and being scared. Every day it crosses our mind what could happen at school and we risk it anyway,\u201d junior Searra Ade said. \u201cWe want to make sure that people who are mentally ill or impaired or anything like that don\u2019t have access to something that could kill somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ade isn\u2019t the whole story, of course. Several commenters on the ISSA Facebook page noted the poor conduct among the counter-protesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was the contingent of four tween-ish boys who made their way through afterward when the crowd had partially dispersed doing their little \u2018F@#$ Trump\u2019 thing,\u201d said<\/a> Facebook user A.J. Ellis. \u201cI hope they don’t cut themselves on all that edginess.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few of the youngsters might have done their protesting a day early. Pruett said in a Facebook live video<\/a> that the day before the rally, someone slashed the tires on his wife\u2019s van.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe at this point it was probably a targeted attack against my family,\u201d Pruett said.<\/p>\n
