NSSF worked tirelessly at the California State Capitol this session, but our work is not over and we need your help.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact Gov. Jerry Brown immediately and respectfully request that he veto the following bills:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.nssf.org\/e\/127421\/01720180SB221-3j277n-177682357\/3kbgql\/184671447\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-action-alert-urge-california-gov-jerry-brown-to-veto-gun-control-bills\" title=\"NSSF Action Alert! Urge California Gov. Jerry Brown to Veto Gun Control Bills\">SB 221<\/a>: This bill would prohibit gun shows at the Cow Palace by making the lawful sale of firearms and ammunition illegal there. There is no valid reason why firearms and ammunition sales at gun shows held there should be stopped as the shows are safe, secure and conducted lawfully. The Department of Finance has <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.nssf.org\/e\/127421\/1-20180727053555PM-SB00221-pdf\/3kbgqn\/184671447\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-action-alert-urge-california-gov-jerry-brown-to-veto-gun-control-bills\" title=\"NSSF Action Alert! Urge California Gov. Jerry Brown to Veto Gun Control Bills\">weighed in<\/a> on this bill and is opposed. It states that gun shows produce \u00b1 13 percent of the Cow Palace\u2019s net revenue; thus banning gun shows would reduce its ability to generate essential revenue for continued fair operations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB1100\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-action-alert-urge-california-gov-jerry-brown-to-veto-gun-control-bills\" title=\"NSSF Action Alert! Urge California Gov. Jerry Brown to Veto Gun Control Bills\">SB 1100<\/a>: This bill would raise the minimum age from 18 to 21 years old to purchase any firearm with limited exceptions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB1177\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-action-alert-urge-california-gov-jerry-brown-to-veto-gun-control-bills\" title=\"NSSF Action Alert! Urge California Gov. Jerry Brown to Veto Gun Control Bills\">SB 1177<\/a>: This bill would, with few exceptions, would prohibit someone from purchasing more than one firearm in a 30-day period.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB1487\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nssf-action-alert-urge-california-gov-jerry-brown-to-veto-gun-control-bills\" title=\"NSSF Action Alert! Urge California Gov. Jerry Brown to Veto Gun Control Bills\">SB 1487<\/a>: The so-called \u201cIconic African Species Protection Act\u201d would prohibit the importation, and possession in some instances, of certain, legally-taken, African species.<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence that such an age limit or a limit on gun purchases to one per month would have an impact on the criminal misuse of firearms. These bills will do nothing to increase public safety, or in the case of SB 1487 improve conservation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Brown has until September 30 to either sign or veto these bills.
