{"id":96336,"date":"2018-08-29T16:08:26","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T20:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=96336"},"modified":"2018-08-29T16:08:26","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T17:01:22","slug":"wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires\/","title":{"rendered":"WATCH: Effort to Block Downloadable Guns Epically Backfires!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If anti-gunners thought they scored a major victory this week when a federal judge in Seattle extended an injunction blocking Cody Wilson from giving away gun files online, they thought wrong.<\/p>\n<p>In a 46-minute press conference on Tuesday (see video below) Wilson explained how that putative victory was, in reality, the exact opposite. Another huge blow to the gun-banning agenda.<\/p>\n<p>What one needs to understand is that the injunction does not stop Wilson, nor his company Defense Distributed, from disseminating gun blueprints to the masses. It only stops him from making them public online free of charge. That\u2019s right folks, Wilson cannot give them away under the order but he can sell them to any user at a \u201cName Your Price\u201d cost \u2014 even if that cost is zero dollars \u2014 so long as those digital files are directly transferred to the purchaser.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mFlAyxSRsOc?rel=0\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>To understand this one just needs to consult the closing paragraphs of the<a href=\"https:\/\/everytown.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Downloadable-Guns-Court-Decision-August-27.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires\" title=\"WATCH: Effort to Block Downloadable Guns Epically Backfires!\"> 25-page order<\/a> penned by U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik that read in part:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Court declines to wade through these issues based on the limited record before it and instead presumes that the private defendants have a First Amendment right to disseminate the CAD files. That right is currently abridged, but it has not been abrogated. Regulation under the AECA [Arms Export Control Act] means that the files cannot be uploaded to the internet, but they can be emailed, mailed, securely transmitted, or otherwise published within the United States.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Okay, quick aside. Judge Lasnik openly admits to violating Wilson\u2019s First Amendment rights!!! He says, and I quote, \u201cThat right is currently abridged\u2026\u201d Duh! Has Lasnik never read the text of the First Amendment which clearly reads, \u201cCongress shall make no law\u2026 abridging the freedom of speech.\u201d Needless to say, that\u2019s not going to go over well when this case, upon appeal, heads to the Ninth Circuit. Can you say, <em>unconstitutional<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, the more immediate takeaway is that files \u201ccannot be uploaded to the internet, but they can be emailed, mailed, securely transmitted, or otherwise published within the United States.\u201d In telling Cody what he could no longer do, Lasnik also told him what he could do moving forward. This gave Wilson the green light to launch, what he affectionately dubbed, \u201cOperation Integral Accident<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Virilio\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires\" title=\"WATCH: Effort to Block Downloadable Guns Epically Backfires!\">*<\/a>.\u201d The sales-based model for the delivery of his repository of secured files.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy to become the iTunes of Downloadable guns, if I can\u2019t be the Napster,\u201d quipped Wilson, during the press conference in Austin, TX.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-gunners must be reeling from this news. Not only have they failed to stop Wilson, but they\u2019ve forced him to monetize his operation. Defense Distributed is now getting paid for a service it was willing to provide for free!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll that\u2019s happened here as a result of this judge\u2019s order is perhaps a doubling or tripling of the valuation of my own company, of our economic power and our ability to deliver files to these people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Now, as noted, because of the \u201cName Your Price\u201d aspect to the site, users can still pay nothing for the files.\u00a0 Except for shipping which runs $7 flat-rate if you opt to purchase files on a USB drive.\u00a0 But, even\u00a0with the &#8220;Name Your Price&#8221; component, it appears that purchasers are more than happy to donate to the cause. <a href=\"https:\/\/defcad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires\" title=\"WATCH: Effort to Block Downloadable Guns Epically Backfires!\">DEFCAD.com<\/a>, the online library operated by Defense Distributed, has raised over $200,000 in just one week. And so far more than 25,000 files have been downloaded.\u00a0 Wilson is also encouraging third-party contributors to sell their files on DEFCAD to earn a 50\/50 split of the proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s ironic is that in their hysterical quest to stop Cody the anti-gunners and their lapdog media pals put a spotlight on this issue which only served to create more hype and interest, and thus more downloaded gun files. One website, CodeIsFreeSpeeh.com, claims that as many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codeisfreespeech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires\" title=\"WATCH: Effort to Block Downloadable Guns Epically Backfires!\">as 1.5 million were downloaded last month alone.<\/a> Maybe they never learned what happened to alcohol consumption<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nber.org\/papers\/w3675\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wilson-block-downloadable-guns-backfires\" title=\"WATCH: Effort to Block Downloadable Guns Epically Backfires!\"> under Prohibition<\/a> but they should\u2019ve recalled what happened to black rifle sales during Obama&#8217;s tenure or even more recently bump stock purchases under Trump. Forbidden fruit always gets eaten.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all good news, however. The injunction doesn\u2019t just ban Defense Distributed from freely sharing files online but everyone. At its core, this is an assault on our First Amendment rights to the nth degree. I mean, what would these gun-grabbers say if the government suddenly blocked religious groups from posting scripture online?
