We ask President Obama to support law abiding gun owners in this time of tragedy.<\/h2>\n

We ask President Obama to stand with law abiding gun owners in this time of tragedy. Guns laws could not have prevented Adam Lanza from killing 27 innocents. The real question is what made this disturbed young man into a murderer of children. Where is the outrage at the violent video games he played? A piece of plastic and steel doesn’t have a will Mr. President. Evil is not law abiding, and Adam Lanza stole those guns after failing to buy one legally. it is America’s law abiding gun owners who would have died with Victoria Soto and Dawn Hochsprung defending the children with only our bodies on December 14th, because it was already illegal to bring a gun into that school. Please don’t pander to the politics Mr. President. A feeding frenzy of new gun legislation is not the answer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Full Letter to President Obama<\/h2>\n

Dear Mr. President,<\/p>\n

Tragedy is a time when a President has to let go of the politics and cry with the people. But as the tears dry and the anger kicks in, the politics usually come back, and that is what is happening in the case of the tragedy of Adam Lanza. Already the media is suggesting that gun control<\/a> could somehow have prevented the murder of the 27 innocents in Newtown Connecticut, and as you almost definitely already know, this is not the truth. Gun control may have actually been partially responsible for the tragedy, because all of the potential protectors in that school were disarmed by state law. Adam Lanza did not care what laws he was breaking on December 14th, 2012, and another law would not have gotten in his way. The real question is what made this disturbed young man into a murderer of children, and that certainly was not the availability of guns<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We are not the gun lobby Mr. President. We are America’s law abiding gun owners<\/a>, and we would have all died with Victoria Soto and Dawn Hochsprung in defending the children with only our bodies on December 14th. Every single one of us would have obeyed the Connecticut law that mandated no guns on school property and left our guns at home. Gun owners are among the most law abiding of Americans, Mr. President, and we deserve your consideration to step aside from the politics and support the truth about this tragedy, not the political agenda put forth by the media and those who would compromise our 2nd Amendment rights.<\/p>\n

Adam Lanza did use guns to kill his victims, but a gun is just an inert piece of plastic and steel. Without the addition of human will and a willingness to kill, a gun is no different than any other potentially dangerous object. In this time of tragedy there is no point making this letter a statistical analysis, because you already know the statistics Mr. President, and you know that guns are used to defend the lives of innocents far more than they are used to take the lives of innocents. Cars, plastic bags and swimming pools are all responsible for exponentially more accidental deaths of children every year than guns, yet none of them are blamed for the deaths. These killings of 27 people in Connecticut were not accidents, but Adam Lanza would have used whatever means possible to commit this crime. He tried to buy a gun legally and couldn’t, so he stole the guns from his mother. Another law in his way would not have stopped the bloodshed, because Adam Lanza, like all criminals, didn’t care what laws got in his way. He was clearly going to do this one way or the other.<\/p>\n

Guns or not, Adam Lanza had to be willing to walk into that school and start shooting like he did, as if he were in a video game. But where is the outrage for the violent video games that Adam Lanza played? Was he a fan of “The Walking Dead,” a TV show that is teaching our young people that they may have to someday kill their neighbors when they turn into zombies? On Youtube it is possible to watch helmet cams from soldiers in Afghanistan, firing at a living and breathing enemy. If you were to weigh the factors of what led Adam Lanza to feel justified in killing schoolchildren on December 14th, how much of that blame do you think would really fall on the availability of inert pieces of plastic and steel?<\/p>\n

Nobody expects newly re-elected President Barack Obama to stand up and call for a law forbidding the states to ban lawful carry of a firearm on school campuses. And certainly nobody expects you to call for an end to violence in the movies, on television and in video games when so much of your support came from the entertainment industry. But during the debates you had the courage to stand up and admit that “assault weapons” were not the problem with street crime. You also didn’t claim to have an answer to the inexpensive handguns in the hands of those street criminals, but you probably do know the answer Mr. President. It is to get more cheap handguns into the hands of inner city law abiding Americans. More guns in the hands of law abiding citizens always equals less crime, and that will be as true on school campuses as it is every other place it has been tried.<\/p>\n

Nobody knows what would have happened at that school had a few of the teachers been armed on December 14th. Guns don’t always prevent evil from winning. At best, guns in the hands of the good girls and guys only give us a shot at beating evil, and evil is a determined enemy. In a perfect world we would all live without violence or tragedy of any kind, but this is not a perfect world. There will be violence, and there will be tragedy, no matter what laws we try to use to prevent it. As America’s law abiding gun owners, we ask you to stand with us, Mr. President, and just speak the truth about this awful thing. Another gun law or laws wouldn’t have stopped Adam Lanza. It is an insult to the victims and to the heroines who gave their lives trying to stop Adam Lanza to suggest that any one thing could have prevented this terrible tragedy. All we ask is that you step aside from the politics and the pandering and speak the truth Mr. President. The media frenzy is well underway, and America’s law abiding gun owners don’t deserve the blame for Adam Lanza. You don’t need to get re-elected again Mr. President.
