(<em>Photo: FOX 4<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A Texas woman shot a would-be carjacker in the face last Wednesday night to protect her two young sons who were located in the vehicle,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox4news.com\/news\/mom-shoots-man-who-tried-to-take-car-with-kids-inside#\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"texas-mom-shoots-carjacker\" title=\"Texas Mom Shoots Carjacker in the Face to Protect Children in Vehicle\"> FOX 4 reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Booker-Hicks, the victim, was candid about the encounter and why she opted to use force in defense of herself and her 2 and 4-year-old sons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn&#8217;t necessarily worried about my car,\u201d she said. \u201cI was more worried about my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a killer or anything, but I do believe in defending what\u2019s mine,\u201d she continued. \u201cI hope that woke him up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incident started around 10 p.m. when Booker-Hicks was paying for gas at a Shell station located on Interstate 35 in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, a strange man hopped into her vehicle, which was still running. Booker-Hicks immediately took action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. Wounded, he got out of the car and collapsed in the middle of the street. Police later identified him as 36-year-old Ricky Wright. He was taken to a local hospital where he was said to be in serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>No one else was injured.<\/p>\n<p>Wright has an extensive criminal history, including charges for drugs, assault, family violence, arson, theft, making a terroristic threat and resisting arrest. (Photo: FOX 4)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Questions emerged as to whether Booker-Hicks would face charges for leaving her children unattended or using a firearm against Wright. Local attorney Toby Shook indicated to the news station that it\u2019s unlikely given the known facts of the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen children are involved, obviously the authorities are going to be very understanding of that,\u201d Shook said. \u201cThe law says that if a reasonable person in her situation would have acted the same way, found it immediately necessary to protect herself or a third party, in this case her children, then that&#8217;s legitimate self-defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Booker-Hicks said that she recently acquired the handgun for self-defense and does not yet have a concealed carry permit.
