A Tennessee teenager fired a shotgun at a would-be home invader last week to defend herself and her younger sister, local media reports.<\/p>\n

The brave teen, identified as 15-year-old Alexis\u00a0Taylor spoke to WTVC Channel 9 News<\/a>\u00a0about the incident.<\/p>\n

It all started after midnight when\u00a0a silver car began backing up the driveway of their home in Sweetwater.\u00a0 Not expecting any visitors at that late hour, Alexis said, “Instantly, I knew something was wrong.”<\/p>\n

The girl’s father was at work.\u00a0 She called him to confirm what she had expected, that this stranger was uninvited.<\/p>\n

Jeremy, Alexis’s father, said that he did not recognize the car nor the suspect.<\/p>\n

“You always play the hypothetical game with your children. What if? You run through scenarios. If this happens, this is what you do. You try to plan for them for every scenario and every case but until it actually happens, you just can’t put them in that situation,” said Jeremy.<\/p>\n

Alexis and her sister,\u00a014-year-old Madison, eyed the man from the window as he prowled around their property.<\/p>\n

After stealing two pressure washers that were located under the carport, the thief then headed to the front door.<\/p>\n

“That’s what scared me because I was thinking, well, if he gets in here, what could happen to me, what could happen to my sister,” said Alexis.<\/p>\n

Her dad, who was still on the phone, advised her to grab the shotgun.<\/p>\n

“I was confident enough to know that she knew how to use the firearm if needed,” said Jeremy.<\/p>\n

With the shotgun in her hands, she slipped outside to confront the intruder.\u00a0 He was still at the front door jiggling the handle, trying to break inside.<\/p>\n

She believes the man must’ve noticed her coming from the side of the house as he quickly made his way back to the car.\u00a0 Once he was inside the vehicle, she walked closer pointing the gun in his direction.<\/p>\n

“During that time my instinct was just telling me, I can’t let him leave with what he had of ours,” she said.<\/p>\n

Alexis told reporters she fired the gun at the man’s car after “he started the ignition and took off.” She believes to have hit the car.<\/p>\n

The man fled the scene into the night, making off with those pressure washers.\u00a0 Investigators are still looking for the driver, the car, and the stolen property. But in the meantime, police complimented Alexis for her bravery.<\/p>\n

“I guess I’m a little old-fashioned and I respect the rights of my citizens to defend themselves and defend their property,” said McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy.<\/p>\n
