Made a Strong First Impression<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years ago, I got my first experience with the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/browning\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-browning-x-bolt-pro-long-range-300-wm-full-review\" title=\"Best Browning X-Bolt for 2026? Pick Your Rifle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Browning X-Bolt<\/a>, using a Hell\u2019s Canyon model in 6.5 Creedmore. I came away very impressed, my respect for the Browning name rekindled. They got a lot right with this model, from the trigger to the muzzle brake. So when the chance popped up to take a look at the X-Bolt Pro in 300 Winchester Magnum, I hopped on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">300 WM might not be the sexiest new round on the block, but it is hard to argue with its 55-year proven track record. It will kill anything in North America, and probably dinosaurs if you find yourself in that position. I also like it because no other cartridge, to me at least, personifies America more. We could make a more aerodynamic bullet, but that is for nerds. We will just make our 30 caliber bullet go faster! Ballisticians, fit more powder behind this. This One Didn\u2019t.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As much as I like 300 WM, I was a little concerned about sparking it off in a 6 pound, 9 ounce gun. I have shot well over 100 rounds in this caliber in a day, but that was behind a not-light AI chassis on a MK13. Sub 7 pounds is great for carrying around the mountains, but it can make for a very long day of testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am very happy to report that the Browning muzzle brake works OUTSTANDING for this caliber. I was so amazed, I actually wondered for a minute if Hornady sent me powder puff loads.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/thumb_IMG_7779_1024-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Browning X-Bolt Pro .300 Win. Mag. rifle\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Muzzle brake is threaded on, also suppressor capable<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"accuracy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Carbon Fiber Good Looks With P-for-Plenty Hunting Accuracy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gun itself is a thing of beauty, something still sorely missing in plenty of hunting rifles. The stock is carbon fiber, which gives it a snakeskin-like appearance. It is also responsible for some of the weight cut from the rifle. The stock is slightly darker bronze than the action and barrel, which gives a nice two-tone look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The barrel is a light profile, but accuracy didn\u2019t suffer on this rifle, much like its smaller 6.5 Creedmore sister. Using <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/hornady-bullets\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-browning-x-bolt-pro-long-range-300-wm-full-review\" title=\"Best Browning X-Bolt for 2026? Pick Your Rifle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hornady 200 grain ELD-X<\/a>, the X-Bolt turned in groups at just over 1 MOA at 100 meters. While that is not as good as the Creedmore, it is still P for plenty on a hunting rifle.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/thumb_IMG_7782_1024-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Browning X-Bolt Pro carbon-fiber stock and Burnt Bronze-style finish from the .300 Win. Mag. test rifle\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"trigger-magazine\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Feather Trigger and 60-Degree Bolt Were Already Hard to Beat<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many of the features that I liked on the original are shared with the X-Bolt Pro. The magazine is still a detachable rotary, with a capacity of 3+1 in this caliber. The trigger is fantastic, named the Feather Trigger by Browning. It is on par with the best I have seen in this class of rifle and is user adjustable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mine came out of the box at 3.75 pounds but is adjustable between 3 and 5. The same 60-degree throw makes a follow-up shot a snap, with some added aesthetics. The bolt on the Pro model is fluted, which if nothing else adds to the visual appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/thumb_IMG_7789_1024-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Browning X-Bolt Pro detachable rotary magazine and hunting rifle controls\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/thumb_IMG_7788_1024-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Fluted bolt and action details on the original Browning X-Bolt Pro rifle\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"scope-mounting\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The X-Bolt Scope-Mounting Catch: Don\u2019t Leave the Store Empty-Handed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I talked about the original X-Bolt, one thing I was sure to point out was this: don\u2019t leave the store without rings. The X-Bolt requires a unique ring set, which severely limits your scope choices. This is one of the only things I would put in the negative column. This time I had enough advanced notice to test the optimal fix for this.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/thumb_IMG_7784_1024-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Browning X-Bolt Pro receiver showing the rifle\u2019s scope-mounting setup\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EGW is one of my favorite accessory companies. I have used them for years, primarily for the Picatinny or Weaver scope bases they make. From 10\/22s to, well, Browning X-Bolts, they make a Picatinny top rail section for almost everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This allowed me to use a grown-up scope with a Picatinny base, which is much more to my liking. EGW makes the base in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.egwguns.com\/steel-browning\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-browning-x-bolt-pro-long-range-300-wm-full-review\" title=\"Best Browning X-Bolt for 2026? Pick Your Rifle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">short or long action<\/a> and with a 0 or 20 MOA cant. If you are possibly taking the X-Bolt long-range hunting, you are going to need one of these. Out of the box, the rail section bolted right on with a perfect fit.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/thumb_IMG_7786_1024-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"EGW Picatinny scope rail mounted to Browning X-Bolt Pro hunting rifle\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"x-bolt-2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Then Browning Built the X-Bolt 2 and Moved the Goalposts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rifle above is the original-generation X-Bolt Pro. That distinction matters in 2026 because Browning has since moved the family forward with the X-Bolt 2. The basic idea remains recognizable, but the current rifles are not just fresh camo sprayed over the old action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Browning revised the receiver to add more bolt-guidance surface area, refined the bolt for smoother cycling, and introduced the multi-lever DLX Trigger on the X-Bolt 2 platform. The familiar three-lug layout and fast 60-degree bolt lift remain part of the formula. On rifles fitted with the Vari-Tech stock, shooters can also change comb height, length of pull, and grip configuration to make the rifle fit the human behind it instead of expecting the human to adapt to the rifle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is a significant change from the rifle I tested in 2018. My original Pro had an excellent Feather Trigger and a stock I liked, but the modern X-Bolt 2 family gives buyers more choices in fit, barrel configuration, stock construction, suppressor-friendly setups, and long-range specialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"speed\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>X-Bolt 2 Speed: The Do-Almost-Everything Pick<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want the current X-Bolt idea without immediately setting your wallet on fire, the X-Bolt 2 Speed is the obvious place to start. The current X-Bolt 2 Hell\u2019s Canyon Max LR family is aimed at hunters who care less about shaving every possible ounce and more about getting comfortable behind the rifle when the shot might be way out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Max concept leans toward a more substantial stock and long-range shooting position, while current X-Bolt 2 versions bring the newer action and trigger architecture into the mix.
