Hillary Clinton just won\u2019t go away.<\/p>\n

Despite her historic, embarrassing loss in the 2016 presidential election, the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence awarded Clinton the \u201cCourageous Leadership Award\u201d at their 25th-anniversary dinner on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Clinton took the opportunity to bash the NRA and received a standing ovation for her efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gun lobby spent about $30 million against me, not having the guts to take on specific gun proposals,\u201d she said. \u201cIn fact, their ads had nothing to do with guns. They were just outright lies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The irony here is that the NRA is more than happy to discuss specific gun proposals, and Clinton herself has lied repeatedly about guns and gun laws. Here are just a few of her fibs.<\/p>\n

False “mass shooting” numbers<\/h2>\n

There have been more than 270 mass shootings in the United States this\u00a0year alone. That\u2019s where four or more are killed. Two hundred and seventy.\u00a0We cannot accept this as normal. We cannot become desensitized.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clinton made this statement during a book tour stop on Oct. 9, 2017, at UC Davis.\u00a0<\/em>The problem, as PolitiFact<\/a> noted at the time, is that Clinton conflates two vastly different definitions of \u201cmass shooting.\u201d Under Clinton\u2019s definition, there had been three mass shootings<\/em> by October of 2017. The 270-shooting mark can only be reached if injuries<\/em> are included in that statistic as well as deaths.<\/p>\n

“Silencers”?<\/h2>\n
\n

The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots.<\/p>\n

Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.<\/p>\n

Clinton tweeted this idea just hours after the Las Vegas gunman opened fire on October 2, 2017. PolitiFact<\/a> rated this statement false as well. Suppressors don\u2019t silence the sound of gunfire, especially from a rifle. Suppressed rifles are still about as loud as a jackhammer, and they\u2019re designed to suppress sound for the shooter\u2014not people downrange.<\/p>\n

Misleading “gun violence” numbers<\/h2>\n

\u202690 people a day die from gun violence in our country. That\u2019s 33,000 people a year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clinton delivered this remark during a debate with then-presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders on January 17, 2016. This is a popular sound byte among anti-gun lobbyists, but it\u2019s massively misleading. The only way to get to 33,000 \u201cgun deaths\u201d is by counting the 21,000 suicide victims who use guns each year. Most people would likely agree that a person who commits suicide with a gun is hardly a victim of \u201cgun violence,\u201d especially considering the higher rates of suicide in relatively gun-free countries like Japan and South Korea.<\/p>\n

“Immunity” for gun makers?<\/h2>\n

Let’s reverse the immunity. Let’s put the gun makers and sellers on notice that they’re not going to get away with it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clinton made this claim about gun manufacturers during a 2015 Democratic primary debate in Iowa on Nov 14, 2015. It\u2019s another popular talking point, and it\u2019s equally untrue. Clinton is referring to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), a law passed in the 1990s that protects gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits. It doesn\u2019t grant gun makers immunity from being held accountable for defective products. It simply reiterates the common-sense notion that a business isn\u2019t responsible for what their customers choose to do with their products.<\/p>\n

Larry Keane, senior vice president, assistant secretary and general counsel to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, pointed out<\/a> the underlying agenda of lawsuits aimed at gun manufacturers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PLCAA only bars frivolous lawsuits that seek to blame gun manufacturers and dealers for the criminal misuse of lawfully sold, non-defective products,\u201d explained Keane in an email to GunsAmerica. \u201cThe PLCAA exists because the Brady Center, greedy trial lawyers and big city mayors got together in the late 1990\u2019s to circumvent Congress and impose gun control regulation through litigation through settlements or bankrupt the industry with massive judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clinton\u2019s lies didn’t do her any favors. A poll<\/a> found on the eve of the election that 46 percent of likely voters believed Donald Trump was more trustworthy than Clinton. Trump went on to win 304 electoral college votes to Clinton\u2019s 227.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
