Dave Holmes wants to take your guns.\u00a0 Because he is angry.\u00a0 And because he believes you<\/em>\u00a0and me and all law-abiding gun owners are responsible for gun-related\u00a0violence in America.\u00a0 Yup.\u00a0 Parkland, it was our<\/em> fault.\u00a0 Santa Fe, it too, was our<\/em> fault.<\/p>\n

Who is Dave Holmes?\u00a0 Don’t know?\u00a0 No worries, I didn’t either.\u00a0 He is Esquire’s Los Angeles-based Editor-at-Large.<\/p>\n

In an article titled, “Okay, Now I Actually Do Want To Take Your Guns,<\/a>” he made the case for disarming everyone in America.<\/p>\n

“All along, as American life has gotten deadlier, as our kids have gotten less safe in their schools, you have had the opportunity to work with the vast majority of Americans who support the sensible reform of our gun laws,” said Holmes.\u00a0 ” You have had the chance to preserve your own rights as we work together to keep our gun regulations in step with gun technology. You haven\u2019t.”<\/p>\n

\"Esquire<\/a>

By not supporting gun control we’re causing killers to kill. By the same logic, you should also chop off your man-junk to prevent rape.<\/p><\/div>\n

Holmes goes on to admonish us for not supporting “sensible” measures like banning bump stocks or stripping 2A rights from adult citizens under the age of 21.\u00a0 The argument being that our inaction on gun control is what’s causing psychopaths to shoot up schools and drug dealers to gun down their rivals.<\/p>\n

By the same logic, we ought to chop off our male appendages to stop rape.\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 I mean, if it’s a hardware problem and not a software problem.\u00a0 Just get rid of the hardware.\u00a0 Problem solved!\u00a0 Maybe Holmes can get behind the self-castration-to-stop-rape movement.<\/p>\n

“So now I\u2019m angry. Now I\u2019m finished trying to reason with you. So now I, a guy who was ambivalent about guns just a few years ago, want to take your guns away. All of them. I want to take them all and melt them down and shape them into a giant sphere and then push it at you so you have to run away from it like Indiana Jones for the rest of your lives,” wrote Homes.<\/p>\n

While the anger\u00a0is understandable.\u00a0 I mean, we’re all angry.\u00a0 Gun owners and non-gun owners alike.\u00a0 It’s unacceptable that 10 people lose their lives at the hands of sicko.\u00a0\u00a0What’s inexcusable, though, is for a published journalist or “editor” to be so fast and loose with the facts.\u00a0 By which I mean dead wrong with his assertions.<\/p>\n

No, Mr. Holmes, America hasn’t gotten deadlier!!! Where are you getting your information from?\u00a0 Michael Bloomberg?<\/p>\n

If Holmes wants to argue that there’s been a slight uptick in the homicide rate from 2014 to 2016, sure, he can make that argument. But generally speaking, America is not deadlier than it was two decades ago. Not even close. (Photo: Mises.org<\/a><\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n

Since the ’90s violence, including the gun homicide rate and shootings, are waaaaay\u00a0down.\u00a0 Not to mention the fact that there are fewer school shootings.\u00a0 I know that doesn’t quite fit the anti-NRA narrative Holmes is promulgating.\u00a0 But those are the facts.<\/p>\n

Don’t believe me?\u00a0 Ask New York Times columnist David Brooks.\u00a0 Even he, who is not shy about his zealotry for banning guns, is objective enough to reject the insinuation that sending a child to school is tantamount to sending them into a war zone.<\/p>\n

“It should be said, each of these events is super horrible, but we shouldn’t be scare mongering. The number of school shootings has plummeted since the 1990s. Schools are about the safest place a child can be. And so we shouldn’t get carried away about that,” said Brooks on NBC’s “Meet the Press<\/a>” this past Sunday.<\/p>\n

Oh, and another thing, Trump via the DOJ is in the process of banning bump stocks<\/a>. So, you’re getting your wish there.\u00a0 Problem with that is it will do nothing to address gun-related violence.\u00a0 Again, I hate to let facts get in the way of gun-grabbing mythology but reciprocating stocks are range novelties that don’t increase the lethality of a rifle.\u00a0 If anything, they make the rifle harder to control and the shooter less accurate.\u00a0 Did you know that?<\/p>\n

To his credit, Holmes does get one thing right.\u00a0 He isn’t taking our guns.<\/p>\n

“God help me, I want to take all of your guns out of your hands, by myself, right now,” he said.\u00a0“It won\u2019t happen, of course. So let\u2019s meet in the middle. Let\u2019s meet at\u2026literally anything.”<\/p>\n

How about this.\u00a0 How about we meet when you demonstrate that you have a basic understanding of the facts that surround this debate?\u00a0 Until then, don’t bother reaching out or threatening to do something that makes about as much sense a lopping off your manhood.<\/p>\n
