Back in the day it was seen as an opportunity to learn the ropes of marksmanship, exercise one\u2019s 2A rights, and spend some quality time with pops.<\/p>\n<p>Not anymore! Now young shooters are seen as a threat to public safety. Their interest in firearms must be questioned. It must be scrutinized.<\/p>\n<p>Parkland school shooting survivor Kyle Kashuv found that out recently. After going to the range with his father last week, he was, to use his word, \u201cinterrogated\u201d by local police and school security. Kashuv, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, had made the mistake of posting pics of the visit on social media. Big Brother was watching.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, authorities put Kashuv&#8217;s feet to the fire. <em>Because why would any \u201creasonable\u201d student with \u201ccommon sense\u201d want to learn how to use an AR-15?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can now check off being wrongfully questioned by law enforcement off my bucket list,&#8221; Kashuv said on Twitter, adding &#8220;school will be interesting for the remainder of my tenure at MSD. Three verys? Dunno bout that. I don\u2019t think the waterboarded the kid but that\u2019s not the point. The point is he shouldn\u2019t have been targeted to begin with! He did nothing wrong! NOTHING!<\/p>\n<p>School officials acknowledge the meeting, saying that there were safety concerns voiced by parents and students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDistrict staff and school administrators looked into this matter and following a review, determined the tweet messages to be non-threatening,\u201d said Nadine Drew, a spokesperson for the Broward County School District in a statement. \u201cIn addition, school administrators did talk with the student.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/parents-community-responds-to-student-suspensions-after-range-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pro-gun-parkland-student-interrogated-by-police-for-shooting-ar-at-gun-range\" title=\"Pro-Gun Parkland Student \u2018Interrogated\u2019 by Police for Shooting AR at Gun Range\">School Suspends Students for Simply Going to Gun Range, Irate Parents Respond<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Kashuv\u2019s encounter is becoming the new normal. We\u2019re seeing it all over the country. Two New Jersey students were recently<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/parents-community-responds-to-student-suspensions-after-range-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pro-gun-parkland-student-interrogated-by-police-for-shooting-ar-at-gun-range\" title=\"Pro-Gun Parkland Student \u2018Interrogated\u2019 by Police for Shooting AR at Gun Range\"> suspended for going to the gun range<\/a>. <em>Suspended<\/em>! Not just questioned but booted from class temporarily for exercising their 2A rights. They also made the mistake of posting pics on social media.<\/p>\n<p>This perverted mindset is epitomized by Greg Pittman, a history teacher at Stoneman Douglas. Pittman said the following on twitter, \u201cAfter a mass shooting at a school, you don\u2019t have to be the sharpest tack in the box to understand when another student posts a photo of an assault weapon why school security personnel and police might ask questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pittman followed it up with, \u201cDo you have any idea what it is like for kids to go back or teachers in those classes? Kyle only did it for attention. Very very bad idea to do. Poor taste is being kind.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It was great learning about our inalienable right of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/2A?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pro-gun-parkland-student-interrogated-by-police-for-shooting-ar-at-gun-range\" title=\"Pro-Gun Parkland Student \u2018Interrogated\u2019 by Police for Shooting AR at Gun Range\">#2A<\/a> and how to properly use a gun. This was my first time ever touching a gun and it made me appreciate the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Constitution?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pro-gun-parkland-student-interrogated-by-police-for-shooting-ar-at-gun-range\" title=\"Pro-Gun Parkland Student \u2018Interrogated\u2019 by Police for Shooting AR at Gun Range\">#Constitution<\/a> even more. Would it be insensitive for those students to exercise their First Amendment rights? And, would their solemn prayers be in \u201cpoor taste\u201d? Should they be interrogated by authorities for their beliefs?<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, Kashuv had a thoughtful response, \u201cGreg, it&#8217;s not in poor taste to learn how to defend myself to ensure I&#8217;m not the next victim. I want others to do the same. We saw that the actual first responder to an active shooter is the potential victim(s).
