The virtue signaling has been deafening from companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/dicks-destroy-ar-15s-shelves\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/citigroups-anti-gun-policies-template\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">Citigroup<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2018\/04\/11\/bank-america-halting-business-makers-military-style-guns-civilian-use\/506223002\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">Bank of America<\/a>, but Wells Fargo has held out against David Hogg and his disciples.<\/p>\n<p>Despite strong pressure from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the bank has refused to cut ties with business partners that manufacture firearms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWells Fargo wants schools and communities to be safe from gun violence, but changes to laws and regulations should be determined through a legislative process that gives the American public an opportunity to participate,\u201d the bank said. \u201cWe remain firm in our belief that the American public does not want banks to decide which legal products consumers can and cannot buy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AFT President Randi Weingarten informed the bank shortly after the Valentine\u2019s Day shooting that the union would no longer use Wells Fargo\u2019s mortgage services to provide home-buying plans to its members as long as the bank maintained its ties with gun makers.<\/p>\n<p>Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan told AFT President Randi Weingarten in an April 3 letter obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2018\/04\/19\/wells-fargo-guns-aft\/529717002\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">USA TODAY<\/a> that the best route to combating gun violence \u201cis through the political and legislative process.\u201d Sloan offered to meet with Weingarten, but that meeting never materialized.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/citigroups-anti-gun-policies-template\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\" rel=\"bookmark\">When Banks Attack: Citigroup\u2019s Anti-Gun Policies May Provide \u2018Template\u2019 for Others<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Weingarten apparently ignored Sloan\u2019s letter, telling him in her own note, \u201cWe can only assume that, in light of your silence and the NRA attacks, you have decided that the NRA business is more valuable to you than students and their educators are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>USA Today spoke with Weingarten, who was more than happy to explain how she stood up to the gun-funding company: \u201cWe essentially said you can have the mortgage business \u2026 or you can continue to value guns more than the people who serve in schools and the kids that have been affected by gun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to USA Today, Wells Fargo stands to lose around 20,000 mortgages from AFT members. The company held <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/2016\/08\/01\/this-chart-shows-how-wells-fargo-dominates-the-mor.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">$105 billion in mortgages<\/a> in the first half of 2016, nearly double that of its closest competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Wells Fargo\u2019s decision to uphold legal and legislative processes stand in stark contrast to other large businesses in recent weeks. Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/dicks-sell-ars-high-cap-mags\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">removed<\/a> then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/dicks-destroy-ar-15s-shelves\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"wells-fargo-teachers-union\" title=\"Wells Fargo Stands Up to Teacher\u2019s Union: 'Banks shouldn\u2019t decide which legal products consumers can buy'\">destroyed<\/a> AR-type rifles in its Field &amp; Stream stores.
