AR specialist CMMG is launching a new series of pistols and short-barreled rifle-pattern AR-15s with suppression in mind. Chambered for .22 Long Rifle, 9mm Luger, .45 ACP and 300 AAC Blackout, the Banshee series showcases just how flexible the AR platform can be.<\/p>\n

CMMG is offering the Banshee series in complete NFA-regulated SBR form<\/a> or as AR pistols<\/a> with stabilizing braces. They opted to fit the pistols with Gear Head Works adjustable Tailhook MOD 2 braces, released earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the same time the company is rolling out a new line of suppressors for guns chambered for pistol- and rifle-caliber cartridges from .22 rimfire to 5.56 NATO and 300 BLK. Called the DefCan series<\/a>, CMMG suppressors feature quick-detach mounts as well as direct-thread options for some models.<\/p>\n

The Banshee family is suppressor-ready, although some guns are readier than others. All of the guns have standard threaded barrels. The 300 BLK models also happen to sport quick-detach flash hiders for use with DefCon suppressors factory-installed.<\/p>\n

All of the pistol-caliber models have 5-inch barrels while the 300 BLK guns have longer 8-inch barrels, not including the muzzle devices. The .22 LR models have the shortest barrels at just 4.5 inches long.<\/p>\n

The 9mm and .45 ACP guns are built using CMMG’s hot new Guard system. Unlike the bulk of pistol-caliber ARs, the Guard guns feature a cam-delayed blowback operating system that keeps the bolt in battery longer. This ensures that more of the gas goes out the muzzle end of the gun and not as much out the ejection port.<\/p>\n

This is especially useful for suppressed guns that can dump a lot of gas out by the shooter’s face.<\/p>\n

The other guns use conventional operating methods. The 300 BLK guns are direct gas impingement while the .22s are all straight blowback.<\/p>\n

Both the rifle and pistol lowers are standard as well. Users can easily swap uppers with any other regular AR-15-pattern parts and get shooting.<\/p>\n

Banshee pistols and rifles feature ambidextrous controls including the safety selector and sling points. The rifles come equipped with CMMG’s RipStock buttstocks, which are telescoping stocks that automatically lock into a pre-set length when extended.<\/p>\n

Banshee rifles and pistols start at $1,149 and go up through $1,499. DefCans start at $325 and top out at $899 with real-world prices even lower.<\/p>\n
