(<em>Photo: Youtube<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>European sportsmen (and women!) enjoy a proud, centuries-old heritage of hunting and shooting, but their way of life has come under attack in recent decades by anti-gun lobbyists gradually restricting the types of guns available for use.<\/p>\n<p>The latest example comes from Norway, where the parliament recently decided to ban most kinds of semi-automatic hunting rifles, according to online Swedish magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaktojagare.se\/kategorier\/utrikes\/norska-jagare-forlorar-halvautomater-20180313\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"norway-ban-semiauto-hunting-rifles-mini-14\" title=\"Norway to Ban 'Most' Semiauto Hunting Rifles, Including the Mini 14\">Jakt &amp; J\u00e4gare<\/a>. While the list of banned firearms has yet to be released, Jakt &amp; J\u00e4gare report that the new law goes farther than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/eu-imposes-strict-gun-controls\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"norway-ban-semiauto-hunting-rifles-mini-14\" title=\"Norway to Ban 'Most' Semiauto Hunting Rifles, Including the Mini 14\">European Union\u2019s new arms directive<\/a>, which still allows the possession of AR- and AK-patterned rifles as long as shooters use magazines of 10 rounds or less.<\/p>\n<p>Ruger\u2019s Mini 14 is almost certainly on the chopping block, and Norwegian hunters will have three years to either sell or dispose of their now-illegal firearms. Selling a firearm to a buyer in a foreign country can be expensive and time-consuming, so many gun owners will likely be forced to simply destroy their rifles.<\/p>\n<p>Norway\u2019s Hunters and Fisheries Federation (NJFF) criticized the legislation and promised to work to provide better options for gun owners.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/norway-makes-strong-case-for-disarming-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"norway-ban-semiauto-hunting-rifles-mini-14\" title=\"Norway to Ban 'Most' Semiauto Hunting Rifles, Including the Mini 14\">Norway Makes Strong Case for Disarming Police<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cNJFF believes it is unacceptable with a retroactive ban on\u00a0hunting\u00a0weapons that have been in legal use for many decades. The fact that the owners are not given opportunity to get any sort of compensation does not make the\u00a0case\u00a0better. We will work hard to get compensation,\u201d said the\u00a0federal\u00a0hunting\u00a0consultant Vidar Nilsen in a statement from NJFF.<\/p>\n<p>The law also includes a breadcrumb for Norwegian hunters, allowing them to own eight hunting weapons in their \u201cwardrobe\u201d instead of the previous six.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a clear light point that the parliament listened to the hunters as to how many hunting weapons may be needed by hunters,&#8221; Vidar Nilsen said.<\/p>\n<p>Norway\u2019s focus on the Mini 14 is likely part of a larger response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2011_Norway_attacks\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"norway-ban-semiauto-hunting-rifles-mini-14\" title=\"Norway to Ban 'Most' Semiauto Hunting Rifles, Including the Mini 14\">2011 mass murder<\/a> that left 77 people dead. The attacker bombed a government building then showed up at a youth summer camp two hours later, where he killed 68 people with a Mini 14.<\/p>\n<p>Norway already had strict <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2011\/jul\/24\/norway-strict-gun-laws-circumvented\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"norway-ban-semiauto-hunting-rifles-mini-14\" title=\"Norway to Ban 'Most' Semiauto Hunting Rifles, Including the Mini 14\">gun laws<\/a> even before parliament decided to ban most semi-automatic rifles. A license is required to own a gun and owners must explain why they want to purchase one.
