Looks like president Trump<\/a> and the NRA<\/a> got their wish. The Dept. of Justice said Saturday that it will proceed with plans to ban \u201cbump stock type devices.\u201d<\/p>\n

Does that just mean reciprocating stocks?\u00a0 Or does that also include trigger cranks, binary triggers, match-grade triggers, rubber bands, human fingers vis a vis Jerry Miculek?\u00a0 Answer: We’ll have to wait and see…<\/p>\n

“President Trump is absolutely committed to ensuring the safety and security of every American and he has directed us to propose a regulation addressing bump stocks,\u201d said Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo that end, the Department of Justice has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget a notice of a proposed regulation to clarify that the National Firearms and Gun Control Act defines \u2018machinegun\u2019 to include bump stock type devices,\u201d Sessions continued.<\/p>\n

The ATF via the DOJ is no longer just a regulatory agency. It appears now that it\u2019s been promoted to a legislative body. Meaning it doesn\u2019t need Congress to pass laws to prohibit lawfully owned property. It can do that on its own, especially when it has the public support of POTUS… Are you scared yet?<\/p>\n

What\u2019s crazy is that the ATF Association openly admitted<\/a> that the agency did not have the power to regulate bump stocks. Congress would have to pass a law to restrict these devices because they are not, by definition, \u201cmachineguns\u201d under the National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese accessories DO NOT cause the firearm to shoot more than one shot by the single function of a trigger pull,\u201d said the association of former and current ATF agents in October.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe notion that ATF chose not to regulate an item it had the authority to regulate is false,\u201d it continued. \u201cThe law is very clear and it does not currently allow ATF to regulate such accessories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Except now \u2014 magically \u2014 it does have that authority. When the president says \u201cDo it,\u201d looks like the minions have to find a way to get it done even though they had, on two separate occasions, determined just the opposite, e.g. Bump stocks are not machineguns!<\/em>\u00a0 They’re firearm parts!<\/em><\/p>\n

You know, Obama was often accused of ruling by executive fiat. Remember when Barry was looking to ban “green tip” ammo? That \u201cback-door bullet ban,\u201d that the NRA warned us about. Remember the nation\u2019s gun lobby blasting Obama for wielding his \u201croyal scepter of stolen executive power\u201d and resorting to a \u201cguerrilla campaign to liquidate the Second Amendment\u201d?<\/p>\n

I do. It\u2019s all right here<\/a> in this article.<\/p>\n

Reality check. How is what Team Trump is doing with bump stocks any different than what Obama was attempting to do with M855, 5.56 mm \u201cgreen-tip\u201d ammunition?<\/p>\n

The answer is\u2026 Heck, it\u2019s the same damn thing! Strong-arming bureaucrats to enact gun, ammo, or accessory bans is wrong regardless of who is occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!!! It sets a horribly dangerous precedent. This administration has just officially weaponized the pencil pushers at the ATF.\u00a0 And if you\u2019re not scared now. You should be.<\/p>\n
