(<em>Photo: Schumer.gov<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Specifically, Schumer wants to criminalize private transfers, ban black rifles and create a system where cops can disarm citizens believed to be a threat to themselves or the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there is one thing this movement has declared it is that we must plug the wide range of loopholes and deficiencies in our gun safety laws,&#8221; said the Senate minority leader in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schumer.senate.gov\/about-chuck\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-schumer-black-rifle-ban\" title=\"Schumer Pushing Black Rifle Ban, Criminalizing Private Transfers &amp; More\">press release<\/a>. &#8220;We have seen an epidemic of gun violence and mass shootings simply envelop America for too long. Each one reveals new loopholes and gaps in gun safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rather than just plugging one leak in response to the last mass shooting, we need a complete approach that improves our gun safety laws from top to bottom and helps prevent future shootings,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/trump-gun-confiscation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-schumer-black-rifle-ban\" title=\"Schumer Pushing Black Rifle Ban, Criminalizing Private Transfers &amp; More\">Trump on Extraconstitutional Confiscation: \u2018Take the firearms first and then go to court\u2019<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Schumer joins a bunch of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/feinstein-bill-minimum-age-firearm-purchases\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-schumer-black-rifle-ban\" title=\"Schumer Pushing Black Rifle Ban, Criminalizing Private Transfers &amp; More\"> other Dems pushing gun control<\/a> following the school massacre in Parkland, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer may succeed in getting a\u00a0full floor vote on those measures.\u00a0 However, getting them to clear the Senate is a whole other ballgame.\u00a0 GOP controls 51 seats whereas Dems have 47.\u00a0 Assuming a filibuster is in play on all three measures, Dems would need 60 votes to get any legislation through the upper chamber.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the bipartisan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/trump-backs-fix-nics-background-check-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-schumer-black-rifle-ban\" title=\"Schumer Pushing Black Rifle Ban, Criminalizing Private Transfers &amp; More\">Fix NICS bill<\/a> is likely to garner serious consideration.\u00a0 Along with president Trump, both Schumer and Senate Majority\u00a0Leader Mitch McConnel (R-KY) support Fix NICS, which seeks to improve reporting to the FBI&#8217;s background check system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSen. McConnell is a co-sponsor of the Fix NICS bill (as is Sen. Schumer) and looks forward to its speedy passage,\u201d said Don Steward, a spokesman for McConnel in an email to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/news\/politics\/schumer-gun-control-parkland-1.17102912\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sen-schumer-black-rifle-ban\" title=\"Schumer Pushing Black Rifle Ban, Criminalizing Private Transfers &amp; More\">amny.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;We have seen an epidemic of gun violence and mass shootings simply envelop America for too long.
