Well, that didn’t take long.\u00a0 Within 36 hours after president Trump put his foot in his mouth saying that he supported pre-due process gun confiscation, the National Rifle Association jumped in to set the record straight.<\/p>\n

NRA chief lobbyist Chris Cox posted the following on Twitter on the heels of a meeting with Trump at the White House Thursday night, “I had a great meeting tonight with @realDonaldTrump & @VP. We all want safe schools, mental health reform and to keep guns away from dangerous people.”<\/p>\n

“POTUS & VPOTUS support the Second Amendment, support strong due process and don\u2019t want gun control,” he added.<\/p>\n

Trump also walked away from the meeting believing it to be a success.\u00a0“Good (Great) meeting in the Oval Office tonight with the NRA!” tweeted Trump.<\/p>\n

Trump had the gun community in a tizzy when he said, during his gun control get together with lawmakers Wednesday, that we should “take\u00a0the firearms first and then go to court.”<\/p>\n

“A lot of times by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process. I like taking the guns early,” explained Trump.<\/p>\n

The discussion was in reference to extreme risk protection orders that allow law enforcement and family members to petition a judge to revoke an individual’s 2A rights if they can demonstrate that the individual is a danger to themselves or others.<\/p>\n

Trump believed this controversial process to be too cumbersome and time-consuming, especially in the case of the Parkland killer.<\/p>\n

“Like in this crazy man\u2019s case that just took place in Florida. He had a lot of firearms. They saw everything,” said Trump.\u00a0 “To go to court would have taken a long time. You could do exactly what you\u2019re saying but take the guns first, go through due process second.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clearly, Trump’s comments contravene everything the NRA stands for.\u00a0 It was only a matter of time before Chris and Wayne weighed in on the matter.\u00a0 After all, the gun lobby has said that it is Trump’s “strongest, most unflinching ally.<\/a>” Not a great look when the horse you backed is saying, while seated at a table next to a smizing Dianne Feinstein, “I like taking guns early.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
