(<em>Photo: Twitter<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\">You shouldn\u2019t be shocked to learn that Walmart announced this week it would stop selling guns and ammo to adults ages 18, 19, and 20.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The multinational corporation with a half a trillion in annual net sales has a history of being a fairweather supporter of the Second Amendment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>More on that in a moment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But first the statement on what led Wally World to discriminate against young adults.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn light of recent events, we\u2019ve taken an opportunity to review our policy on firearm sales,\u201d said the Arkansas-based company in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.walmart.com\/2018\/02\/28\/walmart-statement-on-firearms-policy\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, we are raising the age restriction for purchase of firearms and ammunition to 21 years of age,\u201d it continued. \u201cWe will update our processes as quickly as possible to implement this change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My take is good for Walmart. It\u2019s a free country. Businesses can do whatever they like. For example, if Walmart wanted to suddenly stop selling newspapers to gays and lesbians. It could do that no problem whatsoever. Right? Oh, wait, are you saying that would be a problem? Bad example.<\/p>\n<p>How \u2018bout if it banned the sale of sugary sweets to fat people, like myself. Now I\u2019m sure no one would raise a stink about that. After all, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/healthmain\/heavy-burden-obesity-may-be-even-deadlier-thought-6C10930019\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\">obesity kills more people<\/a> than AIDs and firearms combined. Wait, you\u2019re kidding. That, too, would cause rioting in the streets?<\/p>\n<p>Fine. I got it. How \u2018bout this. If Walmart prohibited old people \u2014 over 60 \u2014 from driving to their store locations. Old people can be slow and dangerous behind the wheel. I think everyone would consider that a public service. We can all agree on that. What, we can\u2019t?<\/p>\n<p>Back to being serious. Walmart has a history of being, how shall we say, not exactly a best friend to the 2A. For starters<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2018\/03\/01\/walmart-has-wobbled-on-gun-sales-for-years-but-its-becoming-more-restrictive\/?utm_term=.c8ce49ec3d15\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\">, they stopped selling guns<\/a> in about two-thirds of their stores in 2006 citing waning \u201ccustomer demand.\u201d\u00a0 What horrible timing.\u00a0 Had they waited two more years, they would&#8217;ve been able to cash in on the Golden Age of Gun Sales spurred by President Barry Obama.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/will-walmarts-self-defense-policy-get-an-employee-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\">Will Walmart\u2019s Self-Defense Policy Get an Employee Killed?<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>They partnered up with Michael Bloomberg in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-guns-walmart\/wal-mart-to-film-gun-sales-in-bid-to-fight-crime-idUSN1421318620080414\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\"> 2008 to roll out a computerized system<\/a> to log all purchases as well as video record every over-the-counter sale. Sounds a little 1984-ish to me. If you bought a gun at Walmart over the past decade, \u201cSmile, you\u2019re on Bloomberg camera!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/walmart-to-stop-selling-ar-15s-tactical-looking-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\">Walmart discontinued selling black rifles<\/a>; once again citing \u201ccustomer demand.\u201d In other words, it wasn\u2019t politics. It wasn\u2019t because Walmart finally caved to pressure from anti-gun shareholders, i.e. the Trinity Church, who had demanded that the retail giant stop selling ARs. Nope. It was all about dollars and cents. And better serving the gun community. Right. Don\u2019t believe that for a second.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s Walmart\u2019s policy on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/will-walmarts-self-defense-policy-get-an-employee-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"walmarts-ban-gun-ammo-sales\" title=\"Walmart's Decision to Ban Gun, Ammo Sales to Young Adults is Not Surprising At All\"> self-defense which instructs employees<\/a> to \u201cdisengage\u201d if the suspect \u201cbrandishes or threatens to use a weapon.\u201d The company fired several Utah employees who stopped a knife-wielding shoplifter. Those employees sued and won in court. The judges said essentially that it\u2019s okay to instruct employees to stand down \u2014 unless withdrawing is not an option and the use of force is reasonably exercised to prevent great bodily harm. That&#8217;s common sense.<\/p>\n<p>Walmart didn\u2019t see it that way. They want their employees to disengage under every circumstance. Even if it\u2019s to protect and defend themselves.
