The National Rifle Association responded Saturday to the news that a host of its corporate partners were jumping ship following the mass killing in Parkland, Flordia.<\/p>\n

The nation’s gun lobby said that this mass exodus was in an “effort to punish our members” in what is a “shameful display of political and civic cowardice.”<\/p>\n

Partners who have severed ties include First National Bank of Omaha, Delta, United, Hertz, Enterprise, Symantec, among others.<\/p>\n

“In time, these brands will be replaced by others who recognize that patriotism and determined commitment to Constitutional freedoms are characteristics of a marketplace they very much want to serve,” said the NRA in a press release.<\/a><\/p>\n

“Let it be absolutely clear. The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made America the greatest nation in the world,” the organization concluded.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Everytown for Gun Safety was leading the charge for businesses to boycott NRA.\u00a0 Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, applauded that Omaha bank for cutting ties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with the NRA is bad for business. The school shooting in Parkland, Florida, has caused Americans across the country to question our current gun laws – and NRA’s role in putting us in danger,” said Watts in a press release.<\/p>\n

“We applaud First National Bank of Omaha for listening to consumers and putting public safety ahead of profits,” she continued.\u00a0 “It\u2019s up to every other corporation that works with the NRA to follow suit and cut dies with this dangerous organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

Customer feedback has caused us to review our relationship with the NRA. As a result, First National Bank of Omaha will not renew its contract with the National Rifle Association to issue the NRA Visa Card.<\/p>\n

The strength of the NRA has and always be its members.\u00a0 Five million strong, the NRA shouldn’t have a problem finding new corporations to replace the old ones.\u00a0 And if existing companies don’t step in, new ones will take their place.<\/p>\n

Ever hear of Black Rifle Coffee Company?\u00a0 Great example.\u00a0 It is a\u00a0veteran-owned company that butters its bread by selling cups of Joe to 2A enthusiasts.\u00a0 Who would’ve thought that that was a viable market?\u00a0 To sell non-gun related products to us?\u00a0 I sure as heck didn’t.\u00a0 Now, after the fact, it makes perfect sense.\u00a0 Could the same principle be applied to money lending?\u00a0 Or car rentals?\u00a0 Possibly.<\/p>\n

One thing’s for certain, we’re a very loyal and engaged bunch.\u00a0 We’re happy to go out of our way to vote with our wallet, particularly when a business shares our values.\u00a0 Plus, we have money to spend.\u00a0 Most of us are gainfully employed, responsible adults.\u00a0 Not sure the same could be said for many of the folks blaming the NRA and its members for Parkland.<\/p>\n

My guess is Delta and Enterprise and Hertz et al.’s loss will be someone from the 2A community’s gain.\u00a0 Big time.\u00a0 And the NRA will be none worse for the wear.<\/p>\n
