The woman, Cathi O\u2019Connor, called the authorities after reading troubling statement\u2019s in her grandson\u2019s journal.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents state\u00a0the young man, recently identified as 18-year-old Joshua O\u2019Connor, wrote, &#8220;I can&#8217;t wait to walk into class and blow all those (expletives) away,&#8221; and\u00a0&#8220;I need to make this shooting\/bombing infamous. I need to get the biggest fatality number I possible can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The journal also stated, \u201cI am learning from past shooters\/bombers mistakes so I don\u2019t make the same ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connor owned an AK-pattern rifle, which he had stored in a guitar case. Prosecutors have also alleged that the teen possessed inert grenades that he planned to fill with black powder.<\/p>\n<p>Mukilteo School District spokesman Andy Muntz said O\u2019Connor had not exhibited troubling behavior.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It really speaks to the importance of if you see something or hear something to notify the authorities. That&#8217;s what she did. He assaulted an officer while trying to escape during his arrest, and he is suspected of robbing a convenience store using the AK.<\/p>\n<p>This story comes in the wake of the recent massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In that tragedy, the suspect exhibited worrying behavior and had even been reported to the FBI. The AR-15 he used to kill 17 people was purchased legally the year before.<\/p>\n<p>Since the news broke on Wednesday, pundits and politicians have been debating (fiercely, often irrationally) about the best way to keep America\u2019s students safe.
