It lacks a gas block, gas tube, buffer and carrier key, which means the rifle is cycled by the end user. Since the rifle does not have a receiver extension, buffer and buffer spring, TROY was able to add a folding stock to the rifle. The side-charging bolt is topped with a target knob, and the pistol grip, controls, and trigger are all Mil-Spec. Picking up the Side Action Rifle I was intrigued. I have seen similar patterned rifles in Europe, but never one in the United States. The rifle was very light and, save for the charging handle, the controls were near identical to an AR-15. Since it is a bolt action rifle, it would be ideal for training a brand new shooter.<\/p>\n<p>I could also see the Side Action Rifle being suitable as a lightweight precision rifle. If TROY offered this rifle in.224 Valkeryie or built an AR-10 patterned rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor, I could imagine myself running around a National Rifle League match carrying one. Since the rifle is a bolt-action, it would lend itself to suppressed use. The bolt and barrel could last a little bit longer than a traditional AR-15 due to the lack of gas port, decreased firing strings and lack of heat and mechanical stress from hot gas and buffer.<\/p>\n<h2>Pricing<\/h2>\n<p>The TROY Side Action Rifle will be available at the end of January and will have an MSRP of $899. If you live in a jurisdiction that does not allow semiautomatic AR-15s, or if you just want a stripped-down, AR-patterned rifle, look at the TROY Side Action Rifle. I hope TROY offers this rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor or .224 Valkryie in the near future.
