Such is the case in Washington state, where lawmakers this week considered a number of proposals that would take a big bite out of the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday the Senate Law and Justice Committee is hearing gun responsibility bills that simply would not have been heard by the previous leadership of the Senate,\u201d said Jeff Potter, program policy director for the Alliance for Gun Responsibilities on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlready this session we\u2019ve seen a bill that was killed at the request of the gun lobby last year pass with this committee. So just the fact that we are having these hearings today is just a sea change from where we were just a few years ago,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The bills considered at the hearing include all of the following, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/q13fox.com\/2018\/01\/15\/washington-senate-committee-hears-gun-control-proposals\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">Q13 Fox<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5444&amp;Year=2017\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">SB 5444<\/a>\u00a0would require an assault weapon license in order to have an assault weapon or a large-capacity magazine. The proposal would also ban non-state residents from buying assault weapons or large-capacity magazines in Washington.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=6146&amp;Year=2017\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">SB 6146<\/a>\u00a0gives local governments in Washington state more leeway to write their own gun control regulations.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5463&amp;Year=2017\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">SB 5463<\/a>\u00a0increases the punishment for anyone who doesn\u2019t store a gun safely. The proposal would also require anyone selling a gun to offer a lockbox, as well.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5992&amp;Year=2017\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">SB 5992<\/a>\u00a0 relates to trigger modification devices.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=6049&amp;Year=2017\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">SB 6049<\/a>\u00a0 relates to high capacity magazines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/washington-state-goes-full-california-proposes-slate-anti-gun-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">Washington State Goes Full California, Proposes Slate of Anti-Gun bills<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>GunsAmerica reached out to Alan Gottlieb, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccrkba.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms<\/a> and Founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"washington-state-lawmakers-mull-new-gun-control-legislation\" title=\"Washington State Lawmakers Mull New Gun Control Legislation\">Second Amendment Foundation<\/a>.\u00a0 Gottlieb, whose organizations are based out of Bellevue, attended the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the hearing I testified on behalf of the more than 20,000 Washington State members of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms against all 5 bills,&#8221; said Gottlieb in an email to GA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Gun owners turned out in very large numbers to show their opposition as well,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;I feel good about being able to stop this assault on our rights. However, to win this battle grass-roots gun owners must continue to have their voices heard and stay engaged for the next few months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"width: 0px;overflow: hidden;line-height: 0\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll keep a close watch on these five bills.
