After a long wait the Springfield Armory is putting their take on the micro 1911 with the new 911 series<\/a>. These pocketable single-stack pistols are excellent pistols that are as easy to shoot as they are to carry.<\/p>\n

Chambered for .380 ACP, the 911 looks and handles like a 1911, just scaled down to the small cartridge. The 911 draws from the same lines and contours of Springfield’s other new pistols which gives them a slick, modern look.<\/p>\n

It’s not just looks with the new series. Working with Hogue Springfield developed a new type of trigger shoe for a crisper and lighter trigger pull. Made from G-10 the trigger shoe delivers a predictable 5-pound break and short, light reset.<\/p>\n

In addition these guns have tactile loaded chamber indicators and large external extractors.<\/p>\n

Otherwise the controls are standard for modern single-action pistols. The design incorporates extended ambidextrous frame-mounted thumb safeties and a short curved trigger. Like other micro 1911s these guns don’t have a grip safety. Instead the frame is checkered front and back for a positive grip under any conditions.<\/p>\n

The company is launching the 911 series with two models, a black model with a matte nitride finish on the slide and barrel and a two-tone model with a satin stainless slide assembly. Both have black hard-anodized aluminum frames.<\/p>\n

And both versions come with Hogue G-10 grips. The black model’s grips have olive green highlights while the two-tone grips have silver highlights to match the slide.<\/p>\n

The combination of design and materials really delivers. Unloaded, each guns weighs just 12.6 ounces, with a magazine. Rounding out the specs 911 pistols measure in at 5.5 inches long with a 2.7-inch barrel. They are just 4 inches tall with the flush magazine in place.<\/p>\n

The slide and barrel are machined from 416 stainless steel while the frames are 7075-T6 alloy aluminum. The magazines are also stainless steel.<\/p>\n

Every pistol ships with two magazines, one flush 6-round mag and an extended 7-rounder. They also all come with premium Ameriglo Pro-Glo tritium night sights. Pro-Glo sights are tactical 3-dot sights with a large yellow front sight and 2-dot rear U-notch sight.<\/p>\n

With a suggested price of only $599 the 911 series is going to get plenty of attention. The concealed-carry market is hotter than ever and the 911 brings a lot of features to the table for that low price.<\/p>\n

Down the line, Springfield will update these models with laser-equipped options. Springfield is working with Viridian to offer them packaged with green laser sights to boot.<\/p>\n
