A California gun owner destroyed his AR-pattern rifle following a mass shooting in Rancho Tehama last Tuesday that left four dead and 13 others wounded.<\/p>\n

Chad Vachter, of Bermuda Dunes, told KMIR<\/a> that although he is a longtime 2A advocate, he is done with black rifles.<\/p>\n

“I think everyone has a right to defend their home, their way of life,” he said. Adding, “I first got into guns when I was a kid hunting with my father.”<\/p>\n

But Vachter started having second thoughts about his fondness for modern sporting rifles in 2015.\u00a0 The self-reflection came after two\u00a0Jihadists\u00a0murdered 14 people\u00a0and\u00a0injured 22 others at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, CA, in December of that year.<\/p>\n

Vachter said that his autistic son received treatment at that facility.\u00a0 He began to wonder what he would do if his son started to ask questions about the incident.<\/p>\n

“So when my son is old enough to realize that someone went in there and shot up that place, and he see’s that gun in my possession and asks me, ‘Why do you have that, Daddy?’ I don’t have a good answer,” Vachter said.<\/p>\n

But the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back was the recent Rancho Tehama shooting.<\/p>\n

“I can’t do it. I can’t have something in my house that so easily could become another part of a situation like that, and I’m not going to be desensitized to it,”\u00a0Vachter explained.<\/p>\n

So, Vachter took a sledgehammer and a circular saw to the rifle.\u00a0 Interestingly enough, a local news agency just happened to be there to record the entire affair.<\/p>\n

“It makes me feel like I’ve been a small man to think that I needed one of these,” Vachter said with the cameras rolling. “The other night, when I read the thing about the school in Northern California, I cried and I haven’t felt good since, and although I’m still sad for all the people and all the victims affected, I feel like I’ve done the only thing that I can do in this equation.”<\/p>\n

Now Vachter wants you to follow suit. He is challenging gun owners to destroy their ARs too, in solidarity. He noted that he will not be giving up his shotgun or pistol.<\/p>\n

It’s hard not to see this guy as an anti-gun plant. That rifle looked brand-spanking new to me.\u00a0 Like it was never used.\u00a0 Like it was just purchased.\u00a0 The fact that he waited for the media to arrive before he destroyed it is also suspicious.\u00a0 Was this whole thing a publicity stunt?<\/p>\n

Maybe he really did have a change of heart.\u00a0 Okay, fine.\u00a0 Wouldn’t he just go ahead and break the rifle?\u00a0 Especially if he was super emotional.\u00a0 But he didn’t.\u00a0 He had the presence of mind to turn it into a spectacle.\u00a0 To get the local news involved.<\/p>\n

Then there’s the tagline, “It makes me feel like I’ve been a small man to think that I needed one of these.”\u00a0 Get outta here with that nonsense!\u00a0 That’s something only a Bloomberg lackey would say.<\/p>\n

Maybe he hasn’t heard of Stephen Willeford<\/a>, the hero who stopped the\u00a0crazed gunman who murdered at least 26 people at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX, just a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Willeford used an AR-15 to confront the attacker.\u00a0 According to Willeford, in that moment, he needed<\/em> an AR-15.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had run out of the house with a pistol and faced a bulletproof vest and kevlar and helmets, it might have been futile,\u201d Willeford said in an interview with\u00a0CRTV\u2019s \u201cLouder With Crowder<\/a>. \u201cI ran out with an AR-15 and that\u2019s what he was shooting the place up with.\u201d<\/p>\n

If\u00a0Vachter really believes one has a right to defend their way of life, then he ought not to have a problem with what many consider to be the optimal tool for the job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
