Did you know that? Cuz I sure as heck didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I was always under the impression that we had a right to keep and bear arms. That that right was protected by something called the Constitution. And that the purpose of that founding document was to keep the government\u2019s grubby hands off our basic rights.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I was wrong, though. Because according to Massachusetts Rep. Marjorie Decker, bearing arms is a \u201cprivilege\u201d in America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a privilege that we allow individuals to hold onto something that causes harm and death,\u201d the Cambridge Democrat said at a Public Safety Hearing last Thursday. \u201cIt is a privilege to have a car license, it is a privilege to have a gun license.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, that clarifies things, doesn\u2019t it? They <em>allow<\/em> us to carry firearms. If that statement doesn\u2019t send you up a wall, I don\u2019t know what will.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/massachusetts-gun-owners-rally-opposition-copycat-gun-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"massachusetts-lawmaker-privilege-gun-license\" title=\"Massachusetts Lawmaker: \u2018It is a privilege to have a gun license\u2019\">Massachusetts Gun Owners Rally in Opposition to \u2018Copycat\u2019 Gun Ban<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Local gun rights advocate Jim Wallace told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recorder.com\/APPeter-gun-privilege-13793790\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"massachusetts-lawmaker-privilege-gun-license\" title=\"Massachusetts Lawmaker: \u2018It is a privilege to have a gun license\u2019\">The Greenfield Recorder<\/a> that Decker\u2019s statement is characteristic of Bay State leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the problems that we face here in Massachusetts is that the Second Amendment is barely recognized in the state as a whole and certainly not as a civil right. I could not have asked for a better witness to that than the previous legislator that actually described our civil rights as a privilege,\u201d said Wallace, executive director of the Gun Owners Action League (GOAL).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am aghast that an elected official would actually say that &#8230; but that\u2019s not unusual,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Tyrants have ruled Massachusetts for some time now. Case in point, state Attorney General Maura Healey. Back in July of 2016, she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/massachusetts-gun-owners-rally-opposition-copycat-gun-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"massachusetts-lawmaker-privilege-gun-license\" title=\"Massachusetts Lawmaker: \u2018It is a privilege to have a gun license\u2019\">put an end to the sale of black rifles<\/a> with the stroke of a pen. State-compliant rifles that were legal to sell one day were deemed unlawful to sell the very next.<\/p>\n<p>Healey also launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/judge-oks-consumer-safety-investigation-glock\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"massachusetts-lawmaker-privilege-gun-license\" title=\"Massachusetts Lawmaker: \u2018It is a privilege to have a gun license\u2019\">\u201cconsumer safety\u201d investigation <\/a>into various firearms manufacturers, including Glock and Remington. It was another way to put the gun industry on notice. Your products aren\u2019t welcome here.<\/p>\n<p>And then, of course, just last week the Legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/mass-becomes-first-state-ban-bump-stocks-vegas-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"massachusetts-lawmaker-privilege-gun-license\" title=\"Massachusetts Lawmaker: \u2018It is a privilege to have a gun license\u2019\">enacted a ban on bump stocks and trigger cranks<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carrying a firearm is a privilege.
