In fact, the only thing better \u2014 in certain circumstances \u2014 is an old Glock with key enhancements.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccertain circumstances\u201d that make it better are these: It\u2019s my Glock and I want to prove that a gun that was described as \u201cperfection\u201d in the company\u2019s marketing actually isn\u2019t. It can be further perfected\u2026or at least brought closer to my kind of perfect.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, choosing the perfect handgun is a very subjective matter. Perfect for me might not be perfect for you. Further, customizing a single handgun might make it better for me but not for you. Regardless, here are my top five Glock enhancements \u2014 changes I\u2019ve made to my Model 19 that have stood the test of time.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Home Stippling<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"top-five-glock-enhancements\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-81733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Glock19Grip.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>If you\u2019re willing to void the warranty on your gun and perhaps risk making a mistake that could render your gun inoperable or even dangerous, a home stippling job will prove you\u2019re either a lunatic or a gifted artist and engineer. I\u2019ve stippled the stocks on my Model 19 no less than three times using a hot soldering iron with a variety of tips. I\u2019m not claiming artist or engineer status, but, so far, I\u2019ve improved purchase and the gun still works like it did from the factory.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re OK with the risk, it\u2019s a fun project. Just field strip your empty gun, heat up a soldering iron and work under a bright task light. Gently press the hot tip of the soldering iron into the polymer for about one second \u2014 the plastic will instantly form a dimple. Pull away and continue along an edge or line marked by blue painter\u2019s tape. When complete, gently sand away the plastic \u201chairs\u201d and you\u2019re done. Unless you want to try a different pattern or feel.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Heavy Tungsten Guide Rod<\/h2>\n<p>Now that I\u2019ve got a better grip on my gun, the next step is to see if I can further improve its shootability by adding weight. The Model 19 is not a heavy gun by any stretch so, by adding a Heavy Tungsten Guide Rod \u2014 available for $49.95 from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glockstore.com\/GEN4-Tungsten-Guide-Rod\" campaign=\"GlockStore.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\"> GlockStore.com <\/a>\u2014 I\u2019ll be tripling the weight of the factory guide rod to 59.29 grams. This is a drop-in part, replaced via a simple field strip. And frankly, the Heavy Tungsten Guide Rod feels far more robust than the factory guide rod. It fits perfectly, doesn\u2019t appreciably change the feel of the slide movement and is otherwise invisible to the user.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-01-at-10.03.13-AM.png\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"top-five-glock-enhancements\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-81739\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-01-at-10.03.13-AM.png\" alt=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" width=\"585\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-01-at-10.03.13-AM.png 585w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-01-at-10.03.13-AM-150x45.png 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-01-at-10.03.13-AM-400x120.png 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When shooting, there\u2019s a noticeable improvement: The muzzle flip \u2014 what little there is with a 9mm \u2014 reduces even more and you\u2019re back on target in an instant. After years of shooting my Model 19 with this part installed, I\u2019ve never had a single problem and never had any desire to switch back.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Apex Action Enhancement Red Trigger &amp; Gen 3 Trigger Bar for Glock<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Red-Shield-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"top-five-glock-enhancements\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" class=\"size-full wp-image-81740 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Red-Shield-1.jpg\" alt=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" width=\"491\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Red-Shield-1.jpg 491w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Red-Shield-1-150x92.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Red-Shield-1-400x244.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/a>With my Glock 19 so grippable and more shootable, the next natural replacement item is the stock trigger and trigger bar. Here a field strip and detail strip are needed as well as some careful insertion of the new parts. It\u2019s a more complex operation but very doable. Operation is still the same: Squeeze the trigger and the gun will fire.<\/p>\n<p>Apex says your results will include the following:<br \/>\n\u2022 Direct drop-in replacement of factory polymer trigger<br \/>\n\u2022 Reduces trigger overtravel and reset distance<br \/>\n\u2022 Smooth uptake and reset<br \/>\n\u2022 Crisp trigger break<br \/>\n\u2022 Center mounted pivoting safety maintains factory safety values<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true. They\u2019re all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apextactical.com\/blog\/index.php\/apex-news\/apex-releases-red-anodized-action-enhancement-trigger-for-mp-shield\/\" campaign=\"ApexTrigger\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\">happening with this $104.95 par<\/a>t. If you\u2019re not keen on the red color of the trigger, other colors are available.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Apex Safety Plunger<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Glock-USP-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"top-five-glock-enhancements\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81742 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Glock-USP-2-400x278.jpg\" alt=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" width=\"400\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Glock-USP-2-400x278.jpg 400w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Glock-USP-2-150x104.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Glock-USP-2-768x533.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Glock-USP-2.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>The Apex trigger upgrade is good but gets even better when you pair it with the Apex Safety Plunger. This <a href=\"https:\/\/store.apextactical.com\/WebDirect\/Products\/Details\/192006\" campaign=\"ApexSafetyPlunger\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\">$17.95 part replaces <\/a>the Glock factory safety plunger but requires additional detail stripping to make it happen. Again, complex but doable. Now the new trigger bar is interacting with a new safety plunger and the combo simply results in a much smoother action. In thousands of rounds fired, I\u2019ve only got more proof that these systems work as well, if not better, than their factory counterparts.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Customizations by Robar<\/h2>\n<p>At this point, I\u2019ve made about $173 in customizations to my Glock 19 that make it more perfect for me. I\u2019m not into spending additional money on one gun when that money could be used to buy another gun or ammo or other accessories, but in the case of the Glock, it\u2019s been such a great gun that it\u2019s worth it. I think.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3.png\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"top-five-glock-enhancements\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-81735\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"Top Five Glock Enhancements\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/robar3.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>So, it\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/robarguns.com\/custom-weapons\/handguns\/custom-glocks\/\" campaign=\"RobarGuns\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\"> off to Robar <\/a>to make it truly unique. We\u2019re talking forward cocking serrations ($145), bullnose front of slide ($85), a gunmetal gray finish with NP3 internals, including a barrel ($160) and, just for good measure, having Robar engrave their Semper Vinco logo on the right side of the pistol slide ($50). That\u2019s $440 to pretty much guarantee that this Glock 19 is good-looking, functional and one-of-a-kind. I\u2019ve been through a few different makes, but the current set is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xssights.com\/Handgun_Sights_pr-8208.aspx\" campaign=\"XSGrips\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\"> XS Big Dot<\/a>.
