A group of attorneys general is speaking out against national concealed carry reciprocity.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, 17 top law dogs from CA, CT, DE, HI, IL, IA, MD, MA, NM, NY, NC, OR, PA, RI, VA, WA and the District of Columbia sent a letter<\/a> to Congress saying they “strongly oppose”\u00a0the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 <\/a>(S. 446) and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017<\/a> (H.R. 38).<\/p>\n “With the worst shooting in American history fresh in our memory, we urge you and your colleagues to reject these ill-conceived bills that would override local public safety decisions and endanger our communities and law enforcement officers,” states the letter.<\/p>\n Based on the premise that one’s 2A rights shouldn’t stop at a state border, these are common-sense measures. Per H.R. 38:<\/p>\n But those attorneys general aren’t having it.\u00a0 Pulling the States-rights card, they went on to argue, “We would not mandate that one State honor another\u2019s fishing, liquor, or hunting permits, yet the proposed legislation applies that same flawed approach to the far more serious issue of who may carry a concealed firearm.”<\/p>\n One’s driver’s license is valid in all 50 states, right?\u00a0 Driving isn’t even a Constitutional right!<\/p>\n Those standing in the way of national reciprocity don’t have a leg to stand on.\u00a0 The blanket claim that it would “endanger our communities” has no basis in reality.<\/p>\n We have more concealed carriers in the U.S. than in any other time in our nation’s history.\u00a0 And crime is down, not up.<\/p>\n Know the #facts<\/a> about concealed carry, and urge your lawmakers to support national reciprocity! https:\/\/t.co\/rnZtyoXADb<\/a> #2A<\/a> #DefendTheSecond<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/kIKEPOcbXZ<\/a><\/p>\n\n
