Gabby Giffords, the founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions.<\/p><\/div>\n

Have you heard of the Law Enforcement Commission for Common Sense (LECCS)?<\/p>\n

Probably not.\u00a0 I hadn’t either.\u00a0 It’s a coalition of active and retired law enforcement “leaders” (another word for “big city\u00a0elites”) that was assembled by\u00a0Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly to do the bidding of their anti-gun organization Americans for Responsible Solutions.<\/p>\n

Last week, LECCS sent out a letter<\/a> calling on Congress to oppose the Hearing Protection Act.<\/p>\n

“As longtime law enforcement professionals, we have seen the horrific results of dangerous weapons falling into the wrong hands,” LECCS said in the letter.<\/p>\n

“The deregulation of firearm silencers through the SHARE Act or the Hearing Protection Act would only make these results more common and often more fatal,” it continued.<\/p>\n

“We urge you to reject any reckless attempt to remove silencers from the NFA, including the SHARE Act and the Hearing Protection Act, and help us to keep American communities safe,” concluded the letter.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the group needs to change its name from the commission for common sense to the commission with head up butt.\u00a0 Criminals don’t use suppressors despite the fact that they are widely available (over 900,000 in circulation<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S. as of 2016) and easy to make.\u00a0 There is a reason for this and it has nothing to do with gun laws or the National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n

Handguns are the preferred weapon of criminals.\u00a0 To give you an idea, a study by the DOJ<\/a> concluded that 90 percent of all nonfatal firearm victimizations were committed with a handgun from 1993 to 2011.\u00a0 Over that same period of time, between 70 to 80 percent of firearm homicides were committed with handguns.<\/p>\n

There is a reason for this.\u00a0 It is because pistols are concealable.\u00a0 Easy to hide from the po-po and easy to hide from Johnny gangster, that other drug peddler from that rival gang.\u00a0 Placing a seven-inch suppressor on the end of a carry piece not only makes it difficult to conceal strutting in the streets, it also makes it harder to deploy when one has to fend off Johnny gangster when he runs up on one’s corner.\u00a0 Dumping it when cops are hot on one’s tail is more difficult too.<\/p>\n

Bottom line: suppressors aren’t conducive to criminal activity.\u00a0 Ergo, criminals don’t use em.\u00a0 That’s common sense (and maybe part of the reason why Europe has more permissive suppressor laws than we do).\u00a0 Because make no mistake, if criminals wanted gun mufflers the NFA isn’t going to stop them from obtaining em just as the hundreds of other laws on the books didn’t stop them from copping the carry piece that’s currently in their pocket or tucked into the small of their back.<\/p>\n

The other point they raised, that de-regulating suppressors would lead to more gun crime, is completely laughable.\u00a0 Suppressors aren’t going to deepen the desire of violent criminals to be more violent nor is it going to impel them to break the law more often.\u00a0 What will?\u00a0 Creating soft targets. Disarming the good guys and weakening our right to keep and bear arms. You know, all the stuff that Americans for Responsible Solutions stands for.<\/p>\n

Anyways, the\u00a0LECCS arguments against silencers have no merit.\u00a0 We can only hope that Congress sees their logic for what it is, complete B.S.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
