Jerry Brown for his signature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are too many examples in our country\u2019s recent history, which show what a firearm can do in the hands of people who practice hate,\u201d said Assemblymember Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer, Sr., the author of AB 785 in a<a href=\"https:\/\/a59.asmdc.org\/press-releases\/california-state-legislature-sends-governor-brown-bill-disarm-hate-crimes\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ca-legislature-approves-bill-disarm-misdemeanor-hate-crime-offenders\" title=\"CA Legislature Approves Bill to Disarm Misdemeanor Hate Crime Offenders\"> press release.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recent incident in Charlottesville, where heavily armed Neo-Nazis, Klansmen and white supremacists, spewing hatred and inciting violence under the guise of protecting free speech and the right to bear arms, is not what the founding fathers of this great nation were protecting when they drafted our Constitution,&#8221; continued Jones-Sawyer, Sr.<\/p>\n<p>This bill mirrors a similar one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/ny-bill-repeal-gun-rights-hate-crime-offenders\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ca-legislature-approves-bill-disarm-misdemeanor-hate-crime-offenders\" title=\"CA Legislature Approves Bill to Disarm Misdemeanor Hate Crime Offenders\">introduced in New York <\/a>earlier this year.\u00a0 We asked Alan Gottlieb,\u00a0executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, his thoughts on that NY bill and he brought up a good point about its redundancy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a Hate Crime is serious or violent, laws already on the books would prohibit the offender from owning a firearm,\u201d said Alan Gottlieb in an email to GunsAmerica.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiberal anti-gun fanatics want to make everything they don\u2019t agree with a hate crime.
