{"id":78816,"date":"2017-09-06T11:34:59","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T15:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=78816"},"modified":"2017-09-06T11:34:59","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T06:29:07","slug":"looters-houston-snatch-almost-100-guns-says-atf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/looters-houston-snatch-almost-100-guns-says-atf\/","title":{"rendered":"ATF: Looters in Houston Snatch Up 100 Guns, Florida FFLs Prepare for Irma!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced last week that looters in the Houston area stole almost 100 firearms (97 to be exact) in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.<\/p>\n<p>Officials with the agency cautioned FFLs prior to the arrival of Harvey, sharing with them best practices on how to secure inventory and deter theft.<\/p>\n<p>ATF also partnered with Houston police to provide security at gun shops around the city. \u00a0But despite those efforts, looters were successful in hitting several gun stores, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/harvey-looters-steal-97-guns-from-houston-area-stores\/2364943\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"looters-houston-snatch-almost-100-guns-says-atf\" title=\"ATF: Looters in Houston Snatch Up 100 Guns, Florida FFLs Prepare for Irma!\">ABC13<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With Hurricane Irma now looming over Florida, the ATF is making moves to help FFLs in the storm&#8217;s path. On Tuesday, it issued a release stating the following:<\/p>\n<p><em>A disaster preparedness plan should be established by all FFLs and FEL\/FEPs to safeguard their businesses by protecting explosives, firearms, and required records. If necessary, licensees and permittees should take precautionary steps by contacting their local ATF field office regarding:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>the relocation of\u00a0<strong>explosives<\/strong>\u00a0magazines and records from business premises to a safe location; or<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>the removal of\u00a0<strong>firearms and ammunition\u00a0<\/strong>inventory, ATF Forms 4473 and 3310.4; and acquisition and disposition records from business premises to a safe location. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em> For more information in preparation for potential disasters, such as hurricanes floods and tornados: <\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Explosives licensees and permittees should refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/explosives\/docs\/guide\/publication-voluntary-steps-prepare-pending-natural-disaster-atf-p-540016\/download\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"looters-houston-snatch-almost-100-guns-says-atf\" title=\"ATF: Looters in Houston Snatch Up 100 Guns, Florida FFLs Prepare for Irma!\">ATF Publication 5400.16<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Firearms licensees should refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/firearms\/docs\/disaster-preparedness-federal-firearms-licensees-atf-p-33177\/download\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"looters-houston-snatch-almost-100-guns-says-atf\" title=\"ATF: Looters in Houston Snatch Up 100 Guns, Florida FFLs Prepare for Irma!\">ATF Publication 3317.7.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Irma has been classified as a Category 5 Hurricane, with winds reaching up to 185 mph! \u00a0CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/09\/06\/us\/hurricane-irma-puerto-rico-florida\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"looters-houston-snatch-almost-100-guns-says-atf\" title=\"ATF: Looters in Houston Snatch Up 100 Guns, Florida FFLs Prepare for Irma!\">reports <\/a>that four of the strongest buildings on the Caribbean island of St. Martin have been destroyed by Irma.<\/p>\n<p>Meteorologists predict that the tempest will reach south Florida in the next 96 to 120 hours, putting the storm over Miami by 2:00 a.m. AST.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looters made off with nearly 100 firearms in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, says the ATF.
