(<em>Photo: Fox9 News<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Minneapolis mayoral candidate Raymond Dehn caused quite the commotion this week when he called for disarming the city&#8217;s police force.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not saying they don&#8217;t have access to that, just like they have access to more lethal weapons in their cars, I would believe they would still have access to their guns in their cars,&#8221; said Dehn, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/news\/270151845-story\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"minneapolis-mayoral-candidate-calls-disarming-police\" title=\"Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Calls for Disarming Police\">Fox9 News.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dehn, a state representative, believes that there needs to be a major overhaul in the way police officers\u00a0are trained, specifically that less-lethal means of force should be prioritized.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think as we look at how to change policing and how we get officers to not react to use their gun in situations, but learning skills around de-escalation training I think are important,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked to clarify his rather stunning remarks, Dehn doubled down on his position.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">People have asked me to elaborate on disarming officers: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gKaUzMFrr0\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"minneapolis-mayoral-candidate-calls-disarming-police\" title=\"Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Calls for Disarming Police\">pic.twitter.com\/gKaUzMFrr0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Raymond Dehn (@raymonddehn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/raymonddehn\/status\/888906315732537346\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"minneapolis-mayoral-candidate-calls-disarming-police\" title=\"Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Calls for Disarming Police\">July 22, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dehn has not yet fleshed out his vision for how a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/kowrin-should-america-subarm-its-citizens\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"minneapolis-mayoral-candidate-calls-disarming-police\" title=\"Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Calls for Disarming Police\">subarmed<\/a>\u00a0police force would operate within a community. \u00a0He said he wants to sit down with the law enforcement to discuss the approach.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/kowrin-should-america-subarm-its-citizens\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"minneapolis-mayoral-candidate-calls-disarming-police\" title=\"Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Calls for Disarming Police\">Korwin: Should America Subarm its Citizens?<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Hmmm&#8230; to have a discussion with law enforcement presupposes that they&#8217;ll show up to the table. \u00a0But that may not be the case. \u00a0Lt. Bob Kroll, the head of the city&#8217;s police union, said what any rational person is thinking. \u00a0That no cop would ever approve of this policy change.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think the people in Minneapolis are logically ready for anything like this,\u201d said Kroll. \u201cWho would ever do the job of policing again?
