(<em>Photo: WHNT<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>An Alabama man recounted his harrowing confrontation with a would-be burglar that ended in an exchange of gunfire early Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Lyles of Colbert County said he was face to face with an armed home invader and left with no choice but to use his firearm to defend himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just awoken and could see a person standing in my doorway. (Gasp) Who are you? I\u2019ve got a gun! He says well I\u2019ve got one too,\u201d Lyles recalled in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/whnt.com\/2017\/06\/06\/burglary-suspect-shot-while-inside-colbert-county-home-homeowner-speaks-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"alabama-homeowner-ive-got-gun-burglar-ive-got-one\" title=\"Alabama Homeowner: \u2018I\u2019ve got a gun.\u2019 Burglar: \u2018I\u2019ve got one too\u2019\">WHNT<\/a>. \u201cWell when I heard him say that I just started shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lyles fired a total of eight times, according to Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson. I found one in the door casing, but I haven\u2019t seen where the other three are yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the shooting, the burglar fled the scene. Authorities found him in a nearby field along with his 18-year-old son and a woman. Both individuals were brought in for questioning.<\/p>\n<p>Police said that there were some strange calls being phoned in that night and that it\u2019s possible that they were trying to draw police away from Lyles\u2019 residence to clear the way for the break-in.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is still ongoing.
