Carry the revolution!<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Carry the revolution! \u00a0<\/em>That is one of the slogans for the Ideal Conceal “cell phone”<\/a> pistol.<\/p>\n

But is it really the disrupting force to the concealed carry market that we’ve been waiting for, sorta like what Uber and Lyft did to the taxicab industry? \u00a0I’ll let you be the judge of that.<\/p>\n

Recently the two-shot .380 pistol found its way back into the headlines. \u00a0Local News affiliate WKEF ran a little story on the gun<\/a>\u00a0and its inventor Ideal Conceal CEO Kirk Kjellberg.<\/p>\n

Kjellberg talked about the inspiration for the project, which was announced last year and\u00a0financed via the crowdfunding portal TruCrowd.<\/a><\/p>\n

“I just decided there’s gotta be a better way to carry,” Kjellberg said. “And I was just looking around and noticed everyone had a smartphone so why not make a pistol that would look like that?”<\/p>\n

Thus far, the pistol is 208 percent funded from its goal of $30,000. \u00a0There are 76 investors pledging a total of $62,322.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are a lot of critics and naysayers, for obvious reasons. \u00a0Quick deployment of the pistol under duress would be a major challenge, although\u00a0Kjellberg said he can have it ready to fire in about two seconds. \u00a0The other issue that comes immediately to mind is capacity. \u00a0Many concealed carriers wince at the notion of a five-shot revolver, let alone a two-shot gun.<\/p>\n

Either way, I’m curious about the development of this little gun. \u00a0I reached out to\u00a0Kjellberg for more information and am awaiting to hear back. \u00a0I’ll update the article if\/when he answers my questions.<\/p>\n

Kjellberg hopes to have it available to consumers by the end of summer 2017, according to WKEF. \u00a0Retail price will be around $500.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: 5\/12\/17<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Kjellberg got back to me on the questions I sent him. \u00a0Below is our brief Q&A:<\/p>\n

Q. What was the inspiration behind the Ideal Conceal pistol?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kjellberg:<\/strong> I was doing the “right things” to carry my Colt Mustang by covering it up with a jacket. However, the jacket got caught up on the pistol when I stood up and a young boy saw that I had a gun and made a bit of a scene. I figured there just had to be a better way. When I sat back down again I noticed everyone on their phone out and decided on that shape.<\/em><\/p>\n

Q. Do you have the specs\/dimensions?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kjellberg:<\/strong> The pistol is 5″ x 3″ x 3\/4″. it weighs 13 ounces. .380 caliber derringer.<\/em><\/p>\n

Q. What is the price point ($500, right)?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kjellberg:<\/strong> Dealers will set the retail. We have heard that the demand will set the price, but many have said under $500.<\/em><\/p>\n

Q. Will you make additional calibers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kjellberg:<\/strong> We expect to make a 9mm at some point, but have to perfect this and get into production before we will even consider that.<\/em><\/p>\n

Q. How does it differ from other competitors, e.g. Full Conceal<\/a>?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kjellberg:<\/strong> I don’t think we have any true competitors. The full conceal remodeling an existing pistol<\/a> and you have to put a mag in and rack a slide. We offer simplicity, we don’t expect avid conceal carry people to be our market. Since day one, I have said that I don’t care what you want to carry as long as you carry something. This is aimed at folks who want protection with simplicity and stealth.<\/em><\/p>\n

Q.\u00a0How’s the funding going for the pistol?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kjellberg:<\/strong> We just launched on Tuesday and have picked up 78 new investors already; I think the raise is doing fantastic!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
