While in Paris Sunday, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room. The gunmen apparently made off with property valued at over $10 million \u2014 rings worth an estimated $4.49 million and a jewelry box worth an estimated $5.6 million.<\/p>\n

E! News reported<\/a> on the\u00a0incident, \u201cKim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers,\u201d a spokesperson for the reality star told the news network.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe begged for them to let her live and [said] she has babies at home,\u201d a source familiar with the robbery told E! News. “Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub. She thought for sure they were going to kill her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guns in Paris? Who would\u2019ve thought? Given the country\u2019s tough stance on civilian gun ownership, one wonders how these lawbreakers were able to bring firearms into the gun-free zone that is La Ville-Lumi\u00e8re (The City of Lights).<\/p>\n

Well, this was the exact point that National Rifle Association made on Twitter \u2014 to the chagrin of Everytown for Gun Safety, the pro-gun control organization funded by billionaire business magnate and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

Wait, criminals held @KimKardashian<\/a>\u00a0at gunpoint in Paris? How is that possible? Does anyone know if they passed a background check first?<\/p>\n

If you ask me, arguing on twitter is like trying to swim laps in a kiddie pool. It\u2019s a dumb idea. There\u2019s just simply not enough room to get the job done. That\u2019s why Twitter is a hotbed for pot shots, snide comments, caustic memes and misleading graphics instead of a place where critical inquiry, self-reflection and respectful discourse leads to real enlightenment. Without the space to really communicate and thoroughly debate an issue, what\u2019s the point?<\/p>\n

Anyways, I digress. As best as it could given the limits of the platform, the NRA iterated the truism that when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. Put bluntly, Paris\u2019 gun-free zone is a failure. It failed Kardashian and it failed more than 100 people last November during a well-planned terrorist attack. Until more Parisians realize they\u2019re exposed by gun-free zones \u2014 not protected by them \u2014 nothing will change.<\/p>\n

Oh, and as far as that chart that Everytown posted, I’d like to see the ratio if they removed all of the murder victims who had gang affiliation and\/or drug-related problems. \u00a0There’s no doubt that gang violence and drug wars in cities like Chicago and Detroit and Oakland greatly impact homicide figures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
