{"id":64293,"date":"2016-09-28T11:42:53","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T15:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=64293"},"modified":"2016-09-28T11:42:53","modified_gmt":"2023-08-20T07:26:56","slug":"debate-watch-trump-vs-clinton-big-loser-2a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/debate-watch-trump-vs-clinton-big-loser-2a\/","title":{"rendered":"Debate Watch: Trump vs. Clinton And the Big Loser is the 2A!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Did you watch the debate on Monday night?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Were you one of the more than 80 million Americans who tuned in?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I was.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I can&#8217;t resist a good political trainwreck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">What were your thoughts?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Who won?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Who lost?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Did it impact your perspective of either candidate?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Did it change your mind on who your voting for come November?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">My thoughts? I thought both candidates struggled.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Clinton looked as if she was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/08\/05\/politics\/hillary-clinton-attacks-donald-trump-journalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"debate-watch-trump-vs-clinton-big-loser-2a\" title=\"Debate Watch: Trump vs. Clinton And the Big Loser is the 2A!\">short-circuiting<\/a>\u201d while trying to deliver her canned responses, especially at the outset of the debate.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every time she brought up some personal anecdote, \u201cToday is my granddaughter\u2019s second birthday,\u201d or that story about her father the \u201csmall businessman\u201d who worked \u201creally hard\u201d printing \u201cdrapery fabrics\u201d it came across as forced and inauthentic as if she was desperately trying to recall the script she was given by her handlers during debate prep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I mean, you know leading up to Monday night her people told her that she needed to work on \u201cconnecting with voters\u201d and \u201chumanizing her image.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>See, the Clinton camp was hoping that by highlighting the fact that she is a grandmother and the daughter of a blue-collar tradesman we\u2019ll forget that she is now a privileged, wall-street connected, political elitist.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s a tough image to shatter.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And, ironically, every time she tries\u00a0to break that image and \u201cconnect\u201d with the American voter \u2014 whether it&#8217;s with her cackle of a laugh, her awkward sneering, or a rehearsed aside about her upbringing \u2014 it only affirms what we already know, she\u2019s a complete phony. \u00a0She doesn&#8217;t give a rats a** about the working man!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If Clinton was over-prepared and over-rehearsed, Trump was the opposite.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Under-prepared and too fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And it showed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Trump relied too much on rhetoric from his stump speeches.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You know, the whole bit about how &#8220;we don\u2019t win anymore,&#8221; how &#8220;we\u2019re losing to China and Mexico&#8221; and, how things are \u201cvery, very bad,\u201d and how we make \u201chorrible deals,\u201d etc. In doing so, he missed out on some real opportunities to counter punch Clinton and really bring the fight to the former Secretary of State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A perfect example is\u00a0the issue of cybersecurity.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That question was teed up perfectly for Trump.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Instead of repeatedly crushing Hillary on her decision to imperil national security by using a private email server that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2015\/03\/clintons-email-server-vulnerable\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"debate-watch-trump-vs-clinton-big-loser-2a\" title=\"Debate Watch: Trump vs. Clinton And the Big Loser is the 2A!\">reportedly easier to hack into than Yahoo<\/a>, Trump briefly mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/help-nra-create-ultimate-clinton-attack-ad\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"debate-watch-trump-vs-clinton-big-loser-2a\" title=\"Debate Watch: Trump vs. Clinton And the Big Loser is the 2A!\">the DNC hack and subsequent scandal <\/a>maligning Bernie Sanders before prattling himself into this gem of a non-sequitur.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">See Also:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/no-fly-no-buy-rape-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"debate-watch-trump-vs-clinton-big-loser-2a\" title=\"Debate Watch: Trump vs. Clinton And the Big Loser is the 2A!\">Infamous No-Fly No-Buy Gun Bill, HR 2578: \u2018Blatant Rape of the Constitution\u2019<\/a><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cSo we had to get very very tough on cyber and cyber warfare. It is a huge problem,\u201d said Trump. \u201cI have a son &#8212; he\u2019s ten years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers. It\u2019s unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">What the heck?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If Trump wants to win this election, he has to be better than that.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He has to go on offense and really exploit Hillary\u2019s vulnerabilities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She opened her response to this question by saying, \u201cWell, I think cyber security, cyber warfare, will be one of the biggest challenges facing the next president because\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Trump should\u2019ve pounced on that comment, saying something along the lines of \u201cWhen it comes to cybersecurity, Secretary Clinton went rogue while serving in the Obama administration. \u00a0She used a private email server that was hacked. \u00a0Her actions were not only unlawful, but they imperiled national security and endangered the lives of millions of Americans.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Given her horrible track record on this issue, how can anyone expect Secretary Clinton to do right by the American people?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That would&#8217;ve put Clinton on the defensive. \u00a0In any event, while Trump\u2019s lackluster performance bothered me, what irked me, even more, was his endorsement of No-Fly, No-Buy legislation during a brief exchange on gun control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After arguing for universal background checks, bans on \u201cmilitary-style\u201d weapons, Clinton said that we \u201cneed to pass a prohibition on anyone who is on the terrorist watch list from being able to buy a gun in our country. If you are too dangerous to fly, you are too dangerous to buy a gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a perplexing response, Trump neither pushed back on Clinton\u2019s call for universal background checks nor a black rifle ban, but instead agreed with her that No-Fly, No-Buy legislation is the way to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFirst of all, I agree and a lot of people even within my own party want to give certain rights to people on watch lists and no-fly lists,\u201d said Trump.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cI agree with you when a person is on a watch list or a no-fly list, and I have the endorsement of the NRA which I&#8217;m very proud of\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For the record, both Democrats and Republicans proposed No-Fly, No-Buy legislation this year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But neither bill cleared Congress.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Similar in scope, both bills sought to do the same thing, keep those on government watchlists from purchasing firearms.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In the past, I\u2019ve gone <a href=\"https:\/\/Top Five Reasons to 2A!\">into great detail explaining<\/a> why No-Fly, No Buy legislation is a bad idea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In a nutshell, it\u2019s unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">Beyond that, government watchlists make no logical sense.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, they\u2019re unnecessary.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If one is a terrorist, arrest him!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Put him in jail. \u00a0<\/span>Problem solved!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>If there are evidentiary reasons to suspect one is a terrorist and yet not enough hard evidence to prosecute him in court, well, get a warrant and continue to surveil him until there is enough to put him behind bars.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s the way our legal system has always worked, whether it pertained to mobsters or terrorists, the government has its hands tied until it can prove in a court of law that an individual is, indeed, a law-breaker.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Only recently have we given the government, which has ballooned in size (DHS, NSA, FBI, CIA, etc.) in the past decade, the power to start creating these secret lists that deprive individuals of certain privileges (flying) without due process and without their knowledge.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s right, there\u2019s no way to know whether you&#8217;re on the list until you attempt to fly.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Moreover, getting off the list is an involved process that can take months!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>But now the government wants to start taking away fundamental rights without giving one his or her day in court.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is wrong.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is unAmerican.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 This is priming the pumps for an Orwellian future. \u00a0<\/span>Yet, sadly, both candidates for president emphatically support enacting such nonsense. \u00a0So, yes, while both Trump and Hillary struggled on Monday
