href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/VCDL.ORG\/posts\/1336425096375156\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-group-slaps-katie-couric-12m-defamation-lawsuit-biased-documentary\" title=\"Gun Group Slaps Katie Couric with $12M Defamation Lawsuit for Biased Documentary\">announced<\/a> that it will sue Katie Couric and the other filmmakers of her biased gun documentary \u201cUnder the Gun\u201d for defamation in federal court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/clarelocke.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/FINAL-Complaint-VCDL-v.-Katie-Couric-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-group-slaps-katie-couric-12m-defamation-lawsuit-biased-documentary\" title=\"Gun Group Slaps Katie Couric with $12M Defamation Lawsuit for Biased Documentary\">lawsuit<\/a>, filed in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Virginia in Richmond, arises from Couric\u2019s decision to add an 8-second pause to the film to make members of the VCDL look stupefied during a line of questioning concerning whether convicted felons or those on terrorists watch lists should be allowed to purchase firearms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">You can see the deceptive pause in the video below:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Couric later apologized for the pause she added for \u201cdramatic effect\u201d after the VCDL outed her for misrepresenting them in the film.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, she has not made any efforts to fix the film \u2014 that is, remove the deliberate pause and add in the six-plus minutes of responses VCDL members gave during the line of questioning \u2014 or to stop promoting and distributing the film in its current misleading state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Now, VCDL is suing the former news anchor for compensatory damages to the tune of $12 million and punitive damages to the tune of $350,000 per plaintiff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cBy misrepresenting that the VCDL and its members did not and could not present any basis for opposing universal background checks, the Defendants caused the organization reputational harm, caused the organization economic harm by impairing the organization\u2019s ability to attract and retain members and secure donations, and decreased the effectiveness of the organization\u2019s advocacy efforts and ability to carry out its mission,\u201d states the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">VCDL further alleges that filmmakers purposely put them in a negative light \u2014 literarily.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That is, Couric and her team turned down lights and closed blinds to \u201cto cast shadows on the VCDL members\u2019 faces and to portray the VCDL members as sinister and untrustworthy,\u201d according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">To illustrate the point, VCDL included screen grabs from the film to show the difference in lighting for VCDL members and pro-gun control advocates.<\/p>\n<div <\/span>Even if VCDL members fail to win any monetary compensation, if nothing else, it helps to raise awareness as to<a
