The video sparked outrage among animal rights activists and those unfamiliar with spear hunting, and Under Armour wasted no time disassociating itself from the couple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Under Armour spokesman Danielle Daly told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-canada-bear-underarmour-idUSKCN10U1MV\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunter-kills-bear-spear-armour-pulls-sponsorship\" title=\"Hunter Kills Bear with Spear, Under Armour Pulls Sponsorship\">Reuters<\/a> that while the company is &#8220;dedicated to the hunting community,&#8221; spear hunting is a step too far. \u201cThe method used to harvest this animal was reckless and we do not condone it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The video depicts Josh Bowmar in the woods of Alberta (western Canada) as he stalks and kills a bear with a hunting spear. Bowmar scores a clean hit, but the video does not follow the bear as it runs away. Instead, viewers see Bowmar celebrating his kill: \u201cCan you believe this?\u201d he says, smiling and laughing. \u201cThat was something else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/world-news\/hunters-sick-new-low-black-8632157\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunter-kills-bear-spear-armour-pulls-sponsorship\" title=\"Hunter Kills Bear with Spear, Under Armour Pulls Sponsorship\">Mirror<\/a> first drew attention to the video, calling Bowmar\u2019s hunt a \u201csick new low,\u201d \u201chorrific,\u201d and \u201cappalling.\u201d The lede claims that Bowmar \u201cleft the animal to die a slow, excruciating death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To anyone unfamiliar with spear hunting (as The Mirror\u2019s author clearly is), the kill certainly looks cruel. But, as Josh Bowmar explained to The Huffington Post, that couldn\u2019t be further from the truth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bear I speared only ran 60 yards and died immediately, that&#8217;s as humane and ethical as one could get in a hunting situation on big game animals. Trust me, no one cares more about these animals than us hunters, especially me,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2016\/08\/23\/-josh-bowmar-spear-hunting-no-charges_n_11669990.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunter-kills-bear-spear-armour-pulls-sponsorship\" title=\"Hunter Kills Bear with Spear, Under Armour Pulls Sponsorship\">he said<\/a> in an emailed statement last week.<\/p>\n<p>He elaborated in an exclusive article published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wideopenspaces.com\/exclusive-josh-bowmar-speaks-out-on-the-bear-hunting-incident\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunter-kills-bear-spear-armour-pulls-sponsorship\" title=\"Hunter Kills Bear with Spear, Under Armour Pulls Sponsorship\">Wide Open Spaces<\/a>: \u201cAnyone that knows animals, they run. When you hit an animal like that, it\u2019s going to run a lot further than 60 yards to evade danger. Which means the bear ran until it died. A bear runs roughly 30 mph. That means it runs about 15 yards a second. So with the bear in the fight or flight mode, running at full speed and only going 60 yards he would have made it there within four seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat bear was dead within four seconds at most, 10 seconds if he wasn\u2019t running full speed. But let\u2019s go further as to say it was a bear that was capable of running slow and live with it\u2019s vitals cut the way they were, there\u2019s no way it didn\u2019t die within 30 seconds. The animal didn\u2019t suffer any more from my spear than it would with a broadhead from an arrow. The author made me out to be unethical and Under Armour is making me out to be unethical as well. This animal ran on adrenaline and died very quickly and humanely,\u201d Bowmar concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Under Armour, unfortunately, hasn\u2019t found Bowmar\u2019s explanation convincing. They withdrew their sponsorship of Bowmar\u2019s wife, Sarah, who represented (ironically) Under Armour\u2019s new women\u2019s hunting line.<\/p>\n<p>Though there was mention of charges being filed against Bowmar as well, those rumors were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2016\/08\/23\/-josh-bowmar-spear-hunting-no-charges_n_11669990.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunter-kills-bear-spear-armour-pulls-sponsorship\" title=\"Hunter Kills Bear with Spear, Under Armour Pulls Sponsorship\">dispelled<\/a> today by the Alberta government, which determined
