{"id":62075,"date":"2016-08-11T14:19:31","date_gmt":"2016-08-11T18:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=62075"},"modified":"2016-08-11T14:19:31","modified_gmt":"2023-08-20T03:04:35","slug":"obama-stop-gun-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/obama-stop-gun-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"President Obama Wants to Stop &#8216;Gun Crime&#8217; While Forgiving Criminals Who Use Guns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_62076\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Obama.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"obama-stop-gun-crime\" title=\"President Obama Wants to Stop 'Gun Crime' While Forgiving Criminals Who Use Guns\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62076\" title=\"President Obama Wants to Stop 'Gun Crime' While Forgiving Criminals Who Use Guns\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-62076\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Obama-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"President Obama (Photo: Associated Press) \" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Obama-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Obama-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Obama.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-62076\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">President Obama (<em>Photo: Associated Press<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The President of the United States talks a lot about \u201ccommon sense.\u201d Common sense gun control legislation, he says, will reduce the number of firearm-related deaths in our country and stop the \u201cflood\u201d of guns into our communities.<\/p>\n<p>But here\u2019s one piece of common sense he has yet to grasp: people\u2014not guns\u2014commit crimes. \u201cGun crime\u201d is a misnomer because guns can\u2019t commit crimes\u2014only criminals can.<\/p>\n<p>We know he doesn\u2019t grasp this concept because he recently decided to commute the sentences of 156 federal prisoners who have been convicted of gun-related offenses.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a short sample, courtesy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/438698\/obama-releases-prisoners-guilty-gun-crimes\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"obama-stop-gun-crime\" title=\"President Obama Wants to Stop 'Gun Crime' While Forgiving Criminals Who Use Guns\">National Review<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2016\/aug\/9\/obamas-forgiveness-of-gun-crimes-amid-push-for-con\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"obama-stop-gun-crime\" title=\"President Obama Wants to Stop 'Gun Crime' While Forgiving Criminals Who Use Guns\">Washington Times<\/a>, of the convicted criminals President Obama will be releasing into our neighborhoods and communities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wilson Henderson, of Hollywood, Fla., was convicted of \u201cuse of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Kenneth Evans, of Fort Worth, Texas, was convicted of \u201cuse and carry firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime and aiding and abetting.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Mark Anthony Clark, of Rockford, Ill., was convicted of \u201cpossession of a firearm by a felon\/fugitive from justice and aiding and abetting,\u201d as well as of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams of meth.<\/li>\n<li>Artis Sangria McGraw, a two-time felon was nabbed in 2001 as part of a federal-local task force specifically aimed at prosecuting gun crimes. He was caught dealing drugs in a neighborhood of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and had a loaded .38 caliber revolver \u2014 with the serial number obliterated.<\/li>\n<li>Kenneth H. Smith was convicted of lying to a firearms dealer.<\/li>\n<li>Carolyn Yvonne Butler was convicted of three counts of armed bank robbery.<\/li>\n<li>Robert Joe Young was convicted of using a gun while trafficking drugs and obstruction of justice. Young was arrested with more than 3 pounds of methamphetamine, was already on probation when he was arrested again, was deemed by local law enforcement to be a major drug supplier to his area and had 40 guns, according to the National Association of Assistant U.S. Attorneys, which represents rank-and-file federal prosecutors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The President\u2019s hypocrisy has not gone unnoticed on Capitol Hill. Sen. Richard C. Shelby of Alabama pointed out that \u201con one hand, the\u00a0Obama administration\u00a0is attempting to limit law-abiding Americans from exercising their Second Amendment right and protecting themselves from harm. On the other hand, the president will let criminals with firearm-related offenses off easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The anti-gun agenda, it seems, is not about stopping people who commit crimes with guns. Their focus, as Brendan Kelly of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence explained, is on guns themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur organizational priority is keeping guns out of the hands of prohibited purchasers in the first place,\u201d Kelly told the Washington Times. \u201cWe feel that starts by expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales and by cracking down on so-called \u2018bad apple\u2019 gun dealers who skirt the law and best practices. We believe that the federal government\u2019s greatest opportunity to reduce gun violence and increase public safety lies in these two approaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccommon sense\u201d behind the President\u2019s call for gun control isn\u2019t really sensible at all. He and his anti-gun supporters blame guns\u2014inanimate objects\u2014rather than the people who choose to pull the trigger.
