At the memorial service for the slain Dallas police officers on July 12, President Obama outright lied about the relative ease of purchasing firearms in the United States.<\/p>\n

During his speech, Obama said the following to those in attendance, \u201cWe flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, I know I don\u2019t need to tell you that that is absurd, but I figured I\u2019d share a bit about what The Washington Post<\/em> had to say on the matter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

This is a catchy talking point that people obviously paid attention to, but it doesn\u2019t make much sense. Literally speaking, not all states allow people under 21 years old to buy a handgun. And as far as we know, there\u2019s no minimum age or a background check required to get a book or use the computer for free at a public library.<\/p>\n

The White House noted that in the context of the speech, Obama was speaking about the lack of opportunity and ready access to guns in many communities, particularly lower-income areas. It\u2019s accurate to say there are communities that lack education, employment and health-care resources. And it\u2019s fair to say that in some communities, there is ready access to illegally obtained guns for teens who can get them easily from a fellow gang member, friend or a family member \u2014 perhaps without even having to leave their home or their street.<\/p>\n

But the president can make that point without resorting to such an exaggerated claim based in no real statistics, and which does nothing but distract the public.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Consequently, The Post<\/em> awarded Obama\u2019s statement with \u201cthree Pinocchios,\u201d which means, in part, that it contains \u201csignificant factual error and\/or obvious contradictions.\u201d<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s great that The Post<\/em> called him out for his B.S., the reality is that the damage is already done.\u00a0 <\/span>Enough unwitting folks have already heard that phrase and thought to themselves, \u201cWow, Obama\u2019s right, we need to do something about this gun problem!\u201d<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll recall that Obama\u2019s lies have worked for him in the past.\u00a0 <\/span>Probably the most notorious example, \u201cIf you like your [healthcare] plan, you can keep your plan,\u201d a pitch he used, probably, hundreds of times when selling Obamacare to the American public.\u00a0 <\/span>Well, many people took the man at his word — as many as 4 million Americans received cancellation notices from their health care providers following the enactment of Obamacare — only to be gravely disappointed.<\/p>\n

For the record, Politifact, a Pulitzer-Prize winning fact-check operation by The Tampa Bay Times<\/em>, named \u201cIf you Like your plan, you can keep your plan,\u201d the biggest lie of the year for 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As it pertains to the gun community, arguably the biggest lie he told us was that he doesn’t want to take our guns away.\u00a0 <\/span>While it\u2019s true he hasn\u2019t actually taken them away, it’s not for lack of effort. \u00a0By supporting Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013,<\/a>” the most recent federal legislation to ban black rifles, Obama’s shown his true colors on the matter. \u00a0As Feinstein stated, the purpose of the law is to “dry up the supply<\/a>” of these weapons over time.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Obama had the temerity to say the <\/a>following at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Chicago last fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, the notion that I or Hillary or Democrats or whoever you want to choose are hell-bent on taking away folks\u2019 guns is just not true,\u201d said Obama.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I don\u2019t care how many times the NRA says it. I\u2019m about to leave office. There have been more guns sold since I have been president than just about any time in U.S. history. There are enough guns for every man, woman and child in this country,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd at no point have I ever, ever proposed confiscating guns from responsible gun owners. So it\u2019s just not true,\u201d said the president.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s such a bald-faced lie.\u00a0 Obama’s whole refrain about “weapons of war not belonging on our streets<\/a>” is just another way of saying you or I shouldn’t own black rifles. \u00a0If Obama could take our guns away, he would. \u00a0Same with Hillary. \u00a0<\/span>In fact, Hillary\u2019s endorsed an Australian-style mandatory buyback scheme<\/a> while on the campaign trail last year.\u00a0 <\/span>So yeah, Obama is lying yet again.\u00a0 Both he<\/span>\u00a0and Hillary\u00a0are hell-bent on taking away our guns. \u00a0Don’t be fooled by their false rhetoric.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
