He explained that he is not recommending charges because the FBI could not find evidence that Clinton or her underlings \u201cintended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, as long as they didn\u2019t <em>intend <\/em>to violate the law\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump \u2013 Clinton\u2019s main rival in the upcoming presidential election \u2013 fired back on Twitter by implying that Clinton got a pass due to her position and political influence: \u201cFBI director said Crooked Hillary compromised our national security. No charges. Wow!\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RiggedSystem?src=hash\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"crooked-hillary-gets-pass-no-criminal-charges-says-fbi\" title=\"\u2018Crooked\u2019 Hillary Gets a Pass, No Criminal Charges Says FBI\">#RiggedSystem<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">FBI director said Crooked Hillary compromised our national security. No charges. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/750353319084843008\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"crooked-hillary-gets-pass-no-criminal-charges-says-fbi\" title=\"\u2018Crooked\u2019 Hillary Gets a Pass, No Criminal Charges Says FBI\">July 5, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan responded as well, saying that the decision not to prosecute Clinton \u201cdefied explanation.\u201d &#8220;No one should be above the law,&#8221; he added, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2016\/07\/05\/fbi-recommends-no-charges-to-be-filed-against-clinton.html?intcmp=hpbt1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"crooked-hillary-gets-pass-no-criminal-charges-says-fbi\" title=\"\u2018Crooked\u2019 Hillary Gets a Pass, No Criminal Charges Says FBI\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI\u2019s decision clears Clinton\u2019s campaign of one of its biggest challenges thus far. Trump and other Republican leaders have made much of the FBI investigation into Clinton\u2019s potentially criminal mishandling of classified information, reiterating that the investigation should disqualify her from running for president.<\/p>\n<p>Others have used the investigation to point out the hypocrisy in the Democratic Party\u2019s proposed gun control bill. The meme below has circulated in a number of iterations, but the idea is always the same: If a person being investigated by the FBI shouldn\u2019t be allowed the own a gun, they shouldn\u2019t be allowed to run for president either.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/1f13ebd49b811337e8a008c9ae8f2af0.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"crooked-hillary-gets-pass-no-criminal-charges-says-fbi\" title=\"\u2018Crooked\u2019 Hillary Gets a Pass, No Criminal Charges Says FBI\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u2018Crooked\u2019 Hillary Gets a Pass, No Criminal Charges Says FBI\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-60222\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/1f13ebd49b811337e8a008c9ae8f2af0-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"1f13ebd49b811337e8a008c9ae8f2af0\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/1f13ebd49b811337e8a008c9ae8f2af0-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/1f13ebd49b811337e8a008c9ae8f2af0-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/1f13ebd49b811337e8a008c9ae8f2af0.jpg 564w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Now, while Republicans will no doubt continue to harp on Clinton\u2019s misconduct, the weight of their accusations will be seriously lessened.<\/p>\n<p>Anything good for Clinton\u2019s campaign, of course, is bad for the future of gun rights in the United States. Clinton has stated repeatedly that the Supreme Court \u201cgot it wrong\u201d when it affirmed the individual right to keep and bear arms, and her nine-part gun control platform includes things like \u201cuniversal background checks\u201d and an \u201cassault weapons\u201d ban.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI had an opportunity to reaffirm the fundamental American principle that no one \u2013 no matter how much political power they possess \u2013 is above the law. They balked on that opportunity, and now a rabidly anti-Second Amendment candidate\u2019s path to the White House is that much clearer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No criminal
